Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Civil Engineer to join our team, providing essential support for site work involving substations, transmission lines, and occasional distribution lines. The role focuses on planning, design review, permitting, and compliance oversight for civil and environmental aspects of utility-scale projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plan.
- Review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and stormwater containment facilities.
- Apply knowledge of floodplain delineation, stormwater management, and drainage design.
- Evaluate foundation designs, site plans, and entrance roadways for project sites.
- Conduct on-site inspections of foundations and analyze concrete mixes.
- Assist with PCB oil disposal plans and ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
- Compose technical reports and other written communications.
- Communicate effectively with consultants and regulatory agency staff.
- Mentor junior staff and participate in storm response roles.
- Perform other duties as assigned, supporting cross-departmental initiatives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in construction, design, or environmental engineering, including fieldwork.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Strong organizational skills and record-keeping abilities.
- Effective communication skills for internal and external collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Rural Utility Service (RUS) standards for Environmental Reporting.
- Willingness to mentor junior staff and participate in storm response roles.
- Availability for occasional travel and 24/7 work during outages or emergencies.
Work Environment
Primary location is Fredericksburg, VA, with potential for other district locations based on availability and approval. The position offers hybrid work flexibility, combining office and remote work. The role requires travel for site inspections and field audits across various locations. Availability for 24/7 response may be necessary during outages or emergencies. The position encourages professional development through training seminars and supports mentorship of junior staff.
