Job Title: Gitlab Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a GitLab expert to join our team. The project involves an initial Proof of Concept to migrate current Builds and CI/CD processes and tools to the GitLab platform. The objective is to transform a monolithic, 60+ million line codebase build, which currently takes over six hours nightly via bash scripts, into smaller, independently buildable components. The ideal candidate will possess deep GitLab knowledge, experience with legacy codebases, various languages (especially C), dependency management, and containerization/container build experience. Upon successful GitLab POC, the project will likely be extended to increase the scope of migration within the repository and CI/CD process.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a cross-functional team to evaluate a large, complex legacy codebase, assess the current CI/CD pipeline, and create a strategic roadmap for modernizing the code to enable modular, rather than monolithic, builds.
- Work closely with stakeholders to validate and guarantee the end-to-end quality and effectiveness of all proposed enhancements.
- Identify technical obstacles stemming from technical debt or system requirements and develop pragmatic solutions to address them.
- Rapidly build expertise with the existing client catalog of shared CI/CD capabilities to properly integrate these capabilities into proposed build enhancements that will support modular builds.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with an enterprise Repository and CI/CD environment with thousands of components.
- Experience implementing parallel jobs and managing cross-project dependencies within GitLab.
- Experience discovering, modernizing, and mapping undocumented dependencies within large legacy codebases.
- Proven ability to significantly reduce build times.
- Hands-on scripting experience in GitLab (preferably with version 18.9) with existing team members already prototyping CI/ML files.
- Python/Bash scripting experience.
- Jenkins experience to assist with migration from that platform.
- Experience with builds and dependencies from multiple codebases, including legacy codebases and C.
- Appropriate Secret Clearance Level.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Kubernetes containerization/container build experience.
