Experience Required

• Minimum: 4 years of commercial or naval experience as a First-Class Welder.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces aboard ships and in shop settings.
• Comfortable climbing ladders and stairs.

Work Environment

• Shipboard and sub-assembly work.
• Must adhere to OSHA regulations for shipbuilding.
• All tools, PPE, and FRCs provided—no need to bring your own!

Welding Qualifications

Before starting work, candidates must pass the following without training at the Newport News Welding School:

• SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding): All positions (2G, 3G, 4G)
• FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding): All positions (2G, 3G, 4G)
• GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding): Horizontal (2G)
• Air Carbon Arc Gouging Proficiency

Additional tests include:

• Visual Inspection of Welds Level I
• Welders Vision Test

Note: If a candidate fails testing or does not complete 30 days of work, a $500 reimbursement applies.

Required Skills

• Multi-pass fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW.
• Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
• Air Carbon Arc Gouging.
• Ability to use fillet and butt weld gauges.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
