Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in a role that combines clinical expertise and scheduling responsibilities. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, chief complaints, reconciling medication lists, and allergies, and preparing patients for visits.
- Escort patients from the reception area and prepare them for examination by providing gowns.
- Take vital signs, draw blood, and administer injections as requested.
- Reconcile allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patients.
- Conduct HCG, urinalysis, rapid strep tests, cultures, and process in-house lab results and outbound tests.
- Perform EKGs, PFTs, nebulizer treatments, apply oxygen, assist with pap exams, perform ear lavages, and administer immunizations and other injections as ordered.
- Chaperone and assist during treadmills, colposcopies, and minor surgeries when appropriate.
- Maintain clean and well-equipped examination rooms and sterilize instruments.
- Stock examination rooms, triage area, and workstation with medical supplies for the designated team.
- Perform phone triage, complete team tasks, paperwork, and faxes.
- Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information and obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visits.
- Participate in staff meetings, educational lectures, and quality improvement activities.
- Follow protocols related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.
- Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT, and IT Policy.
- Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Must Have - Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
- Surgery experience preferred, specifically around scheduling, dermatology, and plastic surgery
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA)
- Completion of BLS class and recertification every 2 years
Work Environment
The role is primarily within the surgery department. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break and two additional 10-minute breaks. The work environment includes exposure to moderate noise levels, body fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva, and potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Work is primarily indoors but may require travel between campus buildings or off-campus. Standard office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility to work 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. After-hours work may be required to meet the demands during peak times, and training sessions may occur outside regular work hours depending on clinical needs.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of NORFOLK, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.50 - $25.50/hr.
