Job Title: Phlebotomist - Pennington Gap

Job Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations within the laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens as required.
  • Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination of equipment.
  • Update patient information accurately and efficiently.
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process to patients.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
  • Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Place samples in appropriate collection containers and label them accurately.
  • Follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
  • Minimum of 1+ year' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-volume environment is required.
  • Confidence in performing pediatric venipunctures.
  • Ability to handle administrative tasks using specific computer systems.
  • Willingness to travel to Patient Service Centers (PSCs) and In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) locations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pennington Gap, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.25 - $22.25/hr.
