Land Survey Project Manager

Job Description

This role is responsible for making precise measurements to determine property boundaries and providing data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth’s surface for engineering, mapmaking, and construction projects. The land surveyor will perform topographic and boundary surveys, prepare plats, flood certificates, and construction stakeouts, among other duties. Collaboration with project managers and survey technicians is essential to ensure seamless project transitions. The role also involves field verification, quality control, and quality assurance of survey data and its representation, as well as researching land and survey records and land titles.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct topographic and boundary surveys.
  • Prepare plats, flood certificates, and construction stakeouts.
  • Work closely with project managers and survey technicians for seamless project transitions.
  • Ensure field verification, quality control, and quality assurance of survey data.
  • Research land and survey records and land titles.
  • Prepare plots, maps, and reports.

Essential Skills

  • LS or LSIT certification required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Micro-Station, Carlson software, and Topcon (Civil Suite, SurvCE) capabilities desirable.
  • Familiarity with ALTA/ACSM standards.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and municipal regulations, codes, and Virginia’s Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM).
  • Expertise in GIS (Geographic Information System) and GPS (Global Positioning System) technologies.
  • Ability to gain government base access and meet background and driving record criteria.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations requiring probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Skill in interpreting construction plans and specifications, maps, plats, and legal descriptions.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, for effective interface with clients, contractors, staff, and management.
  • Experience in directing, supervising, training, and evaluating the performance of assigned staff.

Work Environment

  • This position is a fully onsite role sitting out of the local Virginia Beach office. Travel to other offices in Virginia and Maryland might be required as needed.
