System Administrator

The System Administrator is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure within a services‑based IT environment. This role supports internal engineering teams and end users, partnering closely with IT peers and leadership to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient systems. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, team‑oriented, and adaptable in a fast‑moving environment.


Responsibilities

  • Provision, configure, and support laptops, workstations, and related hardware
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows operating systems and approved software
  • Administer Active Directory, including user accounts, groups, and permissions
  • Provide end‑user support for on‑site and remote employees
  • Support engineering and business applications, including CAD‑related tools
  • Assist with software installs and packaging (training provided)
  • Perform routine system monitoring to ensure system availability and performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and access issues
  • Assist with basic network troubleshooting (not a network‑engineering role)
  • Maintain system documentation, procedures, and asset records
  • Partner with IT team members and leadership to support daily operations
  • Follow established processes with a strong focus on accountability and reliability

Essential Skills

  • Experience supporting Windows‑based systems
  • Hands‑on experience with Active Directory
  • Experience in a services or enterprise IT environment
  • Experience providing end‑user support in a team setting
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively (not a lone‑wolf administrator)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferred 1+ year supporting engineering or design applications (CAD, Bentley, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Experience supporting remote users
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Admin tools (M365 / Azure‑adjacent)
  • Exposure to engineering services or manufacturing environments
  • Reliable, accountable, and process‑driven work style

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional, services‑based IT environment supporting internal engineering teams. The position is team‑oriented, with close collaboration across IT peers and leadership. The schedule includes a primarily in‑office presence with some flexibility, supporting both on‑site and remote users. The organization values collaboration, adaptability, and individuals who take ownership of their work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Roanoke, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62000.00/yr.
