Job Description
The Electrician Technician installs, assembles, tests, and maintains electrical equipment and systems in a commercial manufacturing environment, ensuring all work meets applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. This role focuses on electrical distribution systems up to 480V, conduit installation, and troubleshooting, while providing opportunities for long-term growth and advancement.
Responsibilities
- Install basic electrical equipment and systems in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Run rigid 1.5-inch conduit to gear boxes and other designated locations, ensuring clean, accurate, and code-compliant installations.
- Bend and run conduit ranging from 3/4 inch to 4 inches for commercial applications.
- Wire 3-way switches and other control devices as required by project specifications.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, conduit, cable, equipment, components, and devices associated with electrical systems.
- Install and mount electronic controls, devices, panels, sensors, and related components according to blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Perform interlock wiring as required to support safe and efficient operation of electrical equipment.
- Test electrical systems and verify continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using appropriate testing devices.
- Inspect installation sites and review work orders, building plans, and installation manuals to determine materials requirements and installation procedures.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to identify causes of breakdowns and implement corrective actions.
- Read and interpret contract drawings, electrical blueprints, and control wiring diagrams to plan and execute installations and modifications.
- Install conduit, wireways, and pull wiring and cables, including terminating cables in panels, equipment, and junction boxes.
- Perform modifications to existing electrical systems as needed to meet operational or design requirements.
- Work with electrical distribution systems and wiring up to 480 volts in a commercial environment.
- Direct and help train workers or helpers in installing, maintaining, or repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working in a manufacturing setting.
Essential Skills
- At least 4 years of experience as a Journeyman- or Master-level electrician (card not required).
- Strong commercial electrical experience, including experience with systems up to 480 volts.
- Proven ability to bend and install rigid conduit, including 1.5-inch pipe and conduit from 3/4 inch to 4 inches.
- Hands-on experience running rigid pipe to gear boxes and similar equipment.
- Proficiency in wiring, including 3-way switches and control circuits.
- Ability to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, conduit, cable, equipment, components, and devices.
- Experience installing and mounting electronic controls, devices, panels, sensors, and related components.
- Ability to perform interlock wiring and understand interlock schemes.
- Skill in testing electrical systems and verifying continuity of circuits using appropriate testing devices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, control wiring diagrams, and contract drawings.
- Experience with electrical distribution systems and wiring up to 480V, including installation of conduit, wireways, and cable terminations.
- Competence in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools.
- Capability to perform field modifications to electrical systems as needed.
- Comfort working in a commercial manufacturing environment with adherence to safety standards.
- Must not specialize exclusively in solar electrical work, as this role focuses on commercial and manufacturing electrical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Journeyman or Master Electrician level experience; possession of a card is beneficial but not required.
- Experience directing and training other workers or helpers on electrical installations and repairs.
- Familiarity with reading and working from work orders, building plans, and installation manuals.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting code and safety requirements.
- Willingness to participate in an apprenticeship program to further develop skills and credentials, with the potential for tuition reimbursement upon successful completion.
- Flexibility to work overtime and occasional voluntary Saturdays as needed.

Work Environment
This role is based in a commercial manufacturing facility with a clean, well-maintained environment. Work is performed on-site at the same manufacturing location each day, providing consistency and reduced travel compared with typical construction roles. Standard shifts run Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., currently structured as four 10-hour days and one 8-hour day, offering substantial opportunity for overtime and voluntary Saturday work. The work involves installing and maintaining electrical distribution systems and equipment up to 480 volts, including conduit, wireways, panels, and controls, using standard electrical tools and test equipment. Personal protective equipment is required, including hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots; all PPE except steel-toed boots is provided. The environment supports both shop-based work and potential future field assignments, with a focus on safety, professionalism, and high-quality craftsmanship.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ruther Glen, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
