Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer supports a wide range of complex engineering projects and contributes to every stage of the product lifecycle, from requirements development and preliminary design through critical design, prototyping, testing, and production. This role focuses on solving challenging technical problems, driving new feature designs, and improving product performance for space-bound hardware. The position offers increasing autonomy and ownership over time, along with clear opportunities for professional growth in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the full product lifecycle, including requirements development, preliminary design, critical design, prototype build, testing, and transition to production.
- Lead and contribute to the design and development of analog, digital, and power electronics for high-reliability applications.
- Perform PCB schematic capture and layout using tools such as Cadence or Altium, ensuring robust and manufacturable designs.
- Conduct detailed circuit analysis, including worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), component stress analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA/FMECA), reliability analysis, radiation effects analysis, circuit simulation, and spreadsheet-based analysis.
- Design and debug printed circuit boards (PCBs), resolving complex hardware issues and optimizing performance.
- Plan and execute hardware testing and debugging using oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, programmable loads, data acquisition systems, and related laboratory equipment.
- Design test equipment and develop automated test scripts using MATLAB, C, C++, or Python to support verification, validation, and production testing.
- Prepare, write, and maintain clear and thorough engineering documentation, including drawings, procedures, specifications, product datasheets, application notes, slide presentations, and technical reports.
- Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering team, program management, and manufacturing technicians to ensure successful project execution and on-time delivery.
- Support design assurance activities by following through with documentation and analysis, producing reports such as worst-case, reliability, and failure mode analyses.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of product performance, reliability, and manufacturability through design for manufacturing and design for testing practices.
- Engage in research and development efforts to advance next-generation electronics for demanding environments, including space applications.
- Coordinate with suppliers for parts procurement, PCB fabrication, and assembly services as needed to support project schedules and quality requirements.
- Support and participate in environmental testing processes, including thermal, vacuum, and EMI/EMC testing, to verify performance in harsh environments.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of electrical or electronics engineering experience in a related or other regulated industry, including power electronics design and development.
- 3+ years of experience in the design and debug of analog, digital, or power electronics.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design using Cadence or Altium.
- Hands-on experience with PCB design and layout, from concept through fabrication and assembly support.
- Strong circuit analysis skills, including worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), component stress analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA/FMECA), reliability analysis, radiation effects analysis, circuit simulation, and spreadsheet-based analysis.
- Experience with hardware testing and debugging using oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, programmable loads, data acquisition systems, and similar laboratory instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to design and support test equipment, including developing and automating test scripts using MATLAB, C, C++, or Python.
- Proven design assurance experience, including preparing and following through with documentation and technical analysis reports.
- Ability to produce effective technical documentation, such as engineering drawings, procedures, specifications, datasheets, application notes, presentations, and detailed technical reports.
- Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, program managers, and manufacturing technicians.
- Competency with standard office productivity tools, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Eligibility to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. (ITAR regulated role!)
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with high-reliability, fault-tolerant, radiation-tolerant, and safety-critical systems.
- Knowledge of EEE (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) parts quality requirements.
- Experience designing products intended for operation in harsh environments, such as space or other extreme conditions.
- Experience managing suppliers, including parts procurement, PCB fabrication, and assembly services.
- Background in environmental testing processes and equipment, including thermal, vacuum, and EMI/EMC testing.
- Experience applying design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for testing (DFT) principles to improve product quality and production efficiency.
- Experience working within quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal oversight, making sound engineering decisions and managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
The work environment centers on engineering high-reliability electronics for demanding applications, including space-bound hardware, in a setting that values both technical excellence and work/life balance. Engineers work with modern electronic design automation tools such as Cadence and Altium, and have access to laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, programmable loads, and data acquisition systems for hardware development and testing. The culture emphasizes empowerment, allowing engineers to make decisions and drive their work with minimal management oversight while collaborating closely with multi-disciplinary teams. The environment supports focused, hands-on engineering work alongside a balanced lifestyle, encouraging time for personal interests and family outside of work. Standard office productivity tools are used for documentation and communication, and the facility is structured to support both individual concentration and team collaboration on aggressive project schedules.
