Software Development Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a talented Software Developer to join our team and contribute to the development and deployment of production automation systems for our satellite factory. You will collaborate with hardware and IT teams to set up equipment, develop code using Python, and work in the factory environment to deploy, validate, and iterate software for manufacturing and test operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy production automation systems for the satellite factory.
- Collaborate with hardware and IT teams to set up on-premise equipment.
- Develop code in Python using established tools and processes.
- Deploy, validate, and iterate software for manufacturing and test operations.
- Provide first line support for integrated hardware and software on production automation systems.
- Support custom automated test equipment, SCADA for automated manufacturing lines, and interfaces with flight components and controllers.
- Handle interfaces to back-end networking, databases, and manufacturing execution systems.
- Participate in rotating weekly after-hours on-call shifts for system support.
- Document issues and communicate effectively with technical engineering team members for root cause analysis.
- Engage in Python program debugging, physical and logical network troubleshooting, and industrial controls debugging.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Python programming and software testing.
- Experience in software development or industrial automation.
- Ability to work with software that interacts with hardware.
- Understanding of Ethernet-based protocols and CAN communication protocol.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information/engineering technology, or relevant education and experience.
- 1 or more years of professional experience in software development or industrial automation.
- Experience in installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting IT or mechatronic systems.
- Knowledge of security best practices including encryption and establishing chains of trust.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Understanding of web technologies and data formats such as HTTP/HTTPS, JSON/XML.
- Strong cross-organizational communication skills.
Work Environment
This role requires onsite work at our facility in Redmond, WA. You will need to be on call for one shift per month, which may include a night or weekend day to cover testing needs.
