Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our team in Seattle in a contract-to-direct hire role. The ideal candidate will possess mid to senior level experience in controls engineering and will be comfortable working with multiple PLC brands. While Siemens experience is preferred, we welcome strong programmers with diverse experience. This role requires openness to travel, typically 20-30% of the time, with the potential to travel up to 50%.
Responsibilities
- Design and commission industrial control systems.
- Develop, install, debug, and commission PLC/HMI code on-site using Siemens PLC.
- Program peripheral devices and machines, coordinating debugging, power-up, and validation with teams.
- Engage in PLC programming, automation, HMI, and commissioning tasks.
- Travel to install sites to oversee and participate in the installation and commissioning of control systems.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience in Controls Engineering, PLC, and HMI programming.
- Proficiency in Rockwell (RSLogix, Studio 5000) or Siemens Step 7 (TIA Portal, WinCC) PLC programming.
- Strong skills in motion control programming and commissioning, including servos and VFDs.
- Ability to program/write code/ladder logic from scratch.
- Experience with automotive manufacturing integration and commissioning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with other PLC platforms (Omron, Mitsubishi, GE, etc.).
- SCADA experience with Ignition.
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python, C#/.NET, and Java.
- Experience in hardware design using AutoCAD, Promise-E, or ePlan.
- Proficiency with field bus networks (DeviceNet, Ethernet I/P, Profibus, ProfiNet, etc.).
- Familiarity with customer-defined standards and templates.
- Industrial automation experience preferred over building automation/HVAC controls.
Work Environment
The Seattle location has approximately 64 employees, including engineers, technicians, and other professionals, working together to deliver innovative solutions. The role involves working primarily at Amazon order fulfillment facilities, surrounded by advanced automation and robotics technology. The collaborative atmosphere requires hands-on work and direct interaction with Amazon's team to understand needs and ensure systems meet specifications. The fast-paced setting demands quick thinking and adaptability to meet tight deadlines. Travel opportunities to various Amazon facilities provide exposure to different environments and setups.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, Washington.
