As a Machinist, you will utilize a variety of lathes, mills, grinders, and other machines to create parts and support components. Our shop is equipped with both manual and CNC machines, and proficiency in both disciplines is essential. You will primarily focus on making tool sets for roller machines with precise tolerances. This role requires adaptability to changing priorities, as it is a support department. The parts you will work on are highly engineered and often require rework to achieve the final product. We seek a team-oriented individual who is highly engaged, adaptive, and open to input from multiple departments.
Responsibilities- Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration, adjusting machines to compensate for problems.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls if automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
- Stop machines to remove finished workpieces, or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement according to required machining sequences.
- Lift workpieces to machines manually or with hoists.
- Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
- Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
- Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
- Move materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Proficiency in operating both manual and CNC machines.
- Experience with CNC, mill, and lathe operations, including Haas machines and vertical mills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work well within a team.
- Experience with horizontal lathes.
- Ability to listen and detect machine sounds to identify issues.
- Experience in modifying cutting programs and adjusting machine controls.

Work EnvironmentWork in a well-lit and clean shop with a moderate noise level. You will have direct contact with various metal materials and moderate exposure to environments outside the facility. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Spokane Valley, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
