Yakima Waste, A Waste Connections Company, is looking for an Experienced Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of garbage trucks. If you're dependable, mechanically inclined, and want to grow your career with a leading waste management company, we want to hear from you.

Pay Range: $22.00 - $30.00/hr DOE
Schedule: Monday - Friday | Day Shift | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
📌 Safety-Sensitive Position

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform repairs on engines, chassis, hydraulics, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, tires, etc. .
  • Inspects equipment and/or trucks for condition, operations, parts and fluid levels, differentials, final drives, pump drives, and hubs.
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics repair is required
  • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Review and complete repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
  • Performs maintenance related work as required.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
  • Performs required safety protocols while working on vehicles.
  • Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair trucks on the road. Usually well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.
Requirements:
  • 2+ years of mechanic experience
  • Own personal tools required
  • CDL A or B with air brakes endorsement preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Clean driving record (MVR)
  • Basic computer skills (fleet maintenance software use)
  • Welding/fabrication skills a plus
  • ASE Certifications preferred but not required
  • Able to lift/push/pull 50+ lbs and work in tight spaces
