Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technician for our team in Mount Pleasant, WI. This role is responsible for break-fix support of GPUs, servers, networking equipment, and cabling, as well as managing tickets through ITSM tools. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience deploying fully populated GPU and network racks in a data center environment, including rack movement, baying, leveling, grounding, hot-air containment, and overhead cable tray installation. Strong knowledge of Ethernet cabling technologies and the ability to interpret BOMs is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Deployment & Maintenance
- Install, move, and inspect servers, switches, and GPUs.
- Cable equipment according to wire maps and standards.
- Perform break-fix tasks on servers, GPUs, network devices, and cabling.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and replace faulty components.
- Update firmware and configure IP addresses and login credentials.
- Assist with unboxing, prepping, and auditing servers and consumables.
- Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper functionality.
Rack & Infrastructure Management
- Land and install fully populated GPU/network racks.
- Perform rack movement, baying, leveling, grounding, and containment setup.
- Rack and stack equipment; patch and label copper and fiber cables.
- Install and manage optical modules (SFPs, QSFPs).
- Scope and clean fiber connectors (SC, LC, MPO).
- Work with DC power and DC-powered equipment.
Project & Team Coordination
- Lead and direct build activities related to data center operations.
- Review build documentation and validate materials.
- Ensure alignment with data center standards and safety protocols.
- Manage multiple projects and prioritize team workload.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and ticket resolution.
- Communicate progress using customer tracking tools, MS Office, and documentation.
Collaboration & Support
- Serve as liaison between team members and management.
- Support network admins with server/switch issues and configurations.
- Provide remote access setup for network configuration.
- Respond to specific assistance requests from network teams.
Qualifications
Experience
- 3–10+ years in data center deployment and break-fix roles.
- Proven experience landing fully populated GPU/network racks.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet cabling (copper, fiber: SM, MM, MPO).
- Familiarity with optical modules and fiber cleaning techniques.
- Knowledge of telecom engineering designs for enterprise data centers.
Skills
- Rack and stack, cabling, fiber optics, Cat5/Cat6, troubleshooting.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to manage high-stress, multi-project environments.
- Leadership and team coordination capabilities.
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash) preferred.
Certifications (Preferred)
- CompTIA A+ / Server+
- CCENT / CCNA
- MCP / MCSE
- Windows OS experience
Additional Information
