Description

We are seeking a skilled Data Center Technician to join our IT team. Data Center Technician’s responsibilities include maintaining the data center’s IT system, troubleshooting issues, performing server installations, and ensuring uninterrupted access to network services. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a strong understanding of network infrastructure and data center operations. Familiarity with server installations and network updates is also required. The candidate should also have GPU experience and 4 plus years in a hyperscale environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform tasks listed under Level 1 and Level 2 as needed.

o Move servers and switches to required destinations for installation.

o Inspect servers and switches to ensure they are not damaged.

o Install servers and switches and cable them according to provided wire maps.

o Ensure all cables are bundled neatly and in accordance with standards.

o Double-check with network admins to ensure everything is cabled correctly and all connections are up.

o Install additional components needed (NIC, Drive, Memory).

o Assist in unboxing and prepping servers as needed.

o Audit servers and consumables.

o Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate the problem that the server is encountering.

o Order replacement parts and install them in servers and ship back the defective part to their respective vendors.

o Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed.

o Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers.

o Assist network admins on any issues they are having with a server, including replacing broken or damaged cables, re-routing cables to different ports on the server or switch, replacing optics on both server and switch ports, changing out parts, and installing upgraded versions of those parts in servers.

o Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch in a cabinet and cable it so the network admin can remotely log in and run configurations on the device.

o Assist network admins who reach out requesting specific assistance with servers or switches.

o Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality.

o Perform break-fix tasks, including troubleshooting and replacing faulty components.

• Provide advanced troubleshooting support and resolution of tickets.

• Serve as the initial contact/liaison between team members and management.

• Prioritize and manage workload across the team.

• Review build documentation before projects and validate any questions or concerns.

• Direct build activities related to data center operations.

• Ensure projects are aligned with data center standards.

• Provide thought leadership to aid with growth across the program.

• Manage multiple simultaneous projects with a high degree of stress within the work environment.

• Monitor project deadlines and provide status updates to project managers.

• Ensure compliance with safety measures and data center standards.

• Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality.

• Perform break-fix tasks related to GPUs, including troubleshooting and replacing faulty components.

Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.

• Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).

• Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays.

• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds when necessary.

• Ability to safely climb ladders when necessary.

• Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when necessary.

• Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity.

• 4 plus years of experience in a hyperscale environment

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience.

• CompTIA Server+ or equivalent experience.

• CCENT or equivalent experience.

• Windows OS experience.

• CCNA certification preferred.

• MCP/MSCE certification preferred.

• Scripting experience preferred – PowerShell, Python, Bash.

• Experience with structured cabling, rack & stack, fiber, or optical testing.

• Understanding of storage devices.

• Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.

• Familiarity with ITIL Framework (ITSM, Change Management, Problem Management).

• Strong understanding of Network Fundamentals (OSI Layers 1-3).

• Experience with building, testing, and running cables between devices.

• Experience with installing and terminating Copper and Fiber Optic cabling.

• Experience with GPU deployment and troubleshooting.

• OSHA30 or higher certification.



Onsite in Mt. Pleasant, WI -Seeking a team based out of the South Eastern Wisconsin area who will be focused on GPU cluster deployments within Mt Pleasant, WI. Schedule: (A/B/Days/Nights) on a 3x4x12 schedule
