Job Title: SMT Programmer
Job Description
This role focuses on programming and supporting Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment using Valor software to ensure high-quality, efficient electronic manufacturing. You will develop and maintain machine programs and profiles, support production teams with troubleshooting and process improvements, and collaborate closely with engineering to implement new equipment, materials, and processes.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain SMT machine programs and profiles for new and existing products using Valor software and related tools.
- Maintain accurate product routings and drawing packets, and interpret manufacturing instructions and specifications for production operators.
- Troubleshoot operator and equipment issues, provide timely resolution, and work with leadership to drive training and process improvements.
- Communicate technical problems and findings clearly to engineers and leadership to support effective decision-making.
- Assist in testing and qualifying new equipment, materials, and processes to ensure they meet production and quality requirements.
- Support and perform experiments for failure analysis and root cause analysis, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Recommend additional equipment and tooling needs for product debug and test areas to enhance capability and throughput.
- Participate actively in Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen continuous improvement activities to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Comply with and follow all company security policies and procedures in daily work.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
- Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors, applying sound judgment to select appropriate methods and techniques.
- Build and maintain productive internal and external working relationships to support collaborative problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Operate as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of SMT programming and related disciplines, resolving a wide range of issues in creative and effective ways.
- Manage day-to-day work with minimal instruction, seeking general guidance only on new assignments while demonstrating a high level of independence and accountability.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience in SMT programming, including hands-on experience programming SMT lines using Valor software.
- Proficiency with Valor software for SMT programming and optimization.
- Experience working with ASM SMT equipment or similar SMT production platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in electronics and electrical systems, including the ability to interpret schematics and use test equipment.
- Experience with prototype builds, repair, and mechanical aspects related to SMT processes.
- Ability to provide engineer-level quality work, including structured problem-solving and clear documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with operators, engineers, and leadership.
- Strong multitasking abilities and capacity to take on additional responsibilities as required.
- Effective organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in programs, documentation, and process changes.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups across functions and levels.
- Demonstrated discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment in handling sensitive information and decisions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience participating in or supporting Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience in failure analysis and root cause analysis within an electronics manufacturing or test environment.
- Familiarity with CAD tools related to PCB design and manufacturing data preparation.
- Exposure to test engineering environments, including use of various test equipment and debug tools.
- Comfort working as a fully qualified, career-oriented professional who operates with limited day-to-day supervision.
