Construction Project Engineer (Contract)

Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented construction professional to support day-to-day execution of a large-scale, mission-critical data center construction project in Phoenix, Arizona. In this role, you will work closely with the Construction Manager to coordinate general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders while managing critical project documentation, tracking schedules, and supporting field activities from construction through commissioning and operational handover. This is an exceptional opportunity for a construction professional looking to grow into a Construction Manager or Project Manager role while gaining hands-on exposure to complex, large-scale mission-critical infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities:
- Support Construction Managers with day-to-day project execution activities and coordination across general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and stakeholders
- Track action items and ensure timely follow-up and closure; participate in project meetings and maintain meeting documentation
- Monitor construction progress against project milestones and assist with schedule reviews to identify potential risks or delays
- Support development and tracking of recovery plans and maintain project dashboards and status reports
- Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, NCRs, punch lists, turnover documents, and meeting minutes
- Track drawing revisions, design updates, and maintain accurate project records and reporting
- Assist with TIA, COR, change order, and design change tracking; monitor approval workflows and document status
- Support impact assessments related to schedule and scope changes
- Perform routine field walks with project teams and support quality inspections and punch list management
- Track deficiencies and corrective actions through closure and assist in monitoring contractor compliance with project requirements
- Track commissioning readiness activities and coordinate turnover documentation requirements
- Support system testing, startup activities, and operational handover milestones; assist with closure of turnover-critical issues
- Prepare weekly and monthly project status reports and maintain issue logs, risk registers, and action item trackers
- Communicate project updates to internal and external stakeholders
- 3+ years of construction project engineering, field engineering, project coordination, or project management experience
- Experience supporting commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center construction projects
- Experience working with General Contractors or Owner's Representative teams preferred
- Experience supporting data center or mission-critical facility construction strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required
- Must be able to comply with all required PPE standards including Class 2 safety helmet, Class 2 or higher reflective vest and jacket, ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses or visor, cut and impact resistant gloves, and composite toe leather work boots extending a minimum of 4 inches above the ankle
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, RFI processes, and submittal workflows
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Excel for reporting, tracking, and documentation
- Experience with project management and construction management platforms such as Procore, BIM 360, or similar tools
- Familiarity with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project for schedule monitoring and analysis (P6 preferred)
- Proficiency with Bluebeam for document markup and management
- Knowledge of MEP systems, commissioning processes, and turnover requirements
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability to perform field walks and comply with all required personal protective equipment and safety standards
- Location: Phoenix, AZ (Onsite)
- Duration: 12 months
- Pay Range*: $53.50 - $61 per hour
- Weekly Schedule: 40 hours
- Job Status: Non-Exempt
