Job Description
This fully remote Pharmacy Technician position supports pharmacy services for a federal healthcare clinical contact center. You will assist with prescription processing and renewals, provide patient support, and handle inbound calls from Veterans, physicians, and healthcare staff. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent phone etiquette, comfort working with electronic health records, and a commitment to delivering respectful, accurate, and timely support in a fast-paced healthcare operations environment.
Responsibilities
- Process new prescription orders and prescription renewals, including controlled substances, with a high level of accuracy and compliance.
- Answer inbound calls from patients, physicians, and healthcare staff, providing professional, courteous, and timely assistance.
- Verify patient identity using two identifiers to ensure patient safety and adherence to privacy and security standards.
- Document patient and provider interactions thoroughly and accurately in CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System).
- Escalate professional-scope questions and clinical concerns to a pharmacist when appropriate, following established protocols.
- Support national performance metrics with a strong focus on First Contact Resolution and overall service quality.
- Resolve Veteran concerns at first contact whenever possible, treating every interaction with respect and dignity.
- Maintain required pharmacy technician certification and electronic health record access across all serviced sites.
- Follow call center scripting requirements and guidelines to ensure consistent, high-quality customer service.
- Apply basic math skills to support prescription-related calculations and verification tasks.
- Use strong typing and PC skills to navigate multiple systems, update records, and manage call documentation efficiently.
Essential Skills
- Active Certified Pharmacy Technician credential such as PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or NHA (ExCPT) certification.
- At least 1 year of customer service experience, preferably in a call center or patient-facing environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately in a pharmacy support setting.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently to communicate clearly with patients and healthcare staff.
- Strong call center phone etiquette, including professional demeanor and effective communication skills.
- Ability to follow scripting requirements and standardized protocols during calls.
- Typing proficiency and solid PC skills to work efficiently within electronic systems and applications.
- Comfort working with electronic health records and related clinical systems.
- Commitment to maintaining active pharmacy technician certification and required system access.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience using CPRS/VistA electronic health record systems.
- Previous healthcare call center, pharmacy contact center, or veteran/patient support experience is preferred.
- Experience supporting national performance metrics such as First Contact Resolution in a contact center environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to show empathy and respect in interactions with Veterans and healthcare staff.
Work Environment
This role operates in a 100% remote, fast-paced healthcare operations environment supporting a clinical contact center. You will work from your home office using PC-based systems, electronic health records such as CPRS/VistA, and standard call center technologies to manage inbound calls and documentation. The position focuses on Clinical Contact Center support for pharmacy-related services, requiring consistent internet connectivity, reliable computer equipment, and the ability to work effectively in a structured, metrics-driven setting. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.37 - $25.37/hr.
