Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on the design and development of engineering solutions for gas turbine power generation and industrial process systems. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to create fabrication-centric designs, develop detailed 3D and 2D models, and ensure all solutions meet industry standards and client requirements. The position combines hands-on design work with cross-functional collaboration, continuous process improvement, and technical leadership in areas such as thermal management, vibration, ventilation, and structural analysis.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop engineering solutions for gas turbine power generation and industrial process systems.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, including proper application of GD&T, materials selection, thermal management, vibration control, ventilation and air circulation, lubrication, fuel supply management, manufacturability, and mechanical and electrical acceptance criteria.
- Apply a fabrication-centric design approach to ensure ease of equipment installation, integration, and maintenance.
- Develop and design 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks and create detailed 2D technical drawings that meet industry standards and client specifications.
- Review manufacturing and assembly drawings to ensure accurate fabrication, fit, and integration of components and systems.
- Perform and facilitate CAE analyses, including thermal, fluid flow, foundation, acoustic, and structural analysis, to validate and optimize designs.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and other required technical documentation to support engineering, procurement, and manufacturing activities.
- Continuously improve design processes, standards, and best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency across projects.
- Stay current with the latest SolidWorks tools, features, and design trends and apply them to improve design workflows and outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between engineering, production, management, project management, sales, and purchasing teams to ensure alignment and smooth project execution.
- Review and approve project-specific design documents, including calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment data, customer requirements, supplier documentation, and instrument lists.
- Prepare and deliver regular written and verbal progress reports to communicate project status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal team members to develop and implement solution-centric roadmaps that address technical and commercial requirements.
- Promote and implement a growth mindset within the team while contributing to a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing established procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders, demonstrating strong organization and follow-through on commitments.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5–10 years of experience in 3D and 2D mechanical design using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling of mechanical components and assemblies and creation of detailed 2D drawings.
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM for managing design data and revision control.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D design and drafting.
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics and thermal management in mechanical systems.
- Experience with structural skid design and structural analysis for power generation and industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of gas turbine and power generation systems and related industrial machinery.
- Experience with vibration analysis, ventilation, and air circulation design.
- Understanding of lubrication and fuel supply management for mechanical systems.
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication-oriented mechanical design.
- Hands-on experience with CAE tools and methods for thermal, fluid flow, foundation, acoustic, and structural analysis.
- Strong mechanical design and mechanical engineering fundamentals, including GD&T and materials selection.
- Experience with HVAC-related design considerations in industrial or power generation applications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability and assembly.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and documentation requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- EIT or PE certification is a plus.
- Expert-level knowledge in multiple engineering disciplines, including thermal, acoustical, structural, and power generation, is highly desirable.
- Experience working on modular power generation and process systems is beneficial.
- Expereince in engineering and manufacturing environments where design, fabrication, and testing occur under one roof.
- Ability to champion continuous improvement initiatives in design processes and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a growth mindset and contribute positively to team culture.
- Comfort working in smaller, scaling organizations with close collaboration among design engineers at different levels.
- Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time to visit client, vendor, and supplier sites.
Work Environment
The role is based in an engineering and manufacturing facility focused on modular power generation and process systems, where design, fabrication, and in-house testing are performed under one roof. The company operates from a 40,000-square-foot facility and maintains a smaller, scaling team that includes mechanical design engineers at various levels, fostering close collaboration and mentorship. The work is primarily sedentary, requiring the ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and negligible force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. The position involves substantial talking and hearing to exchange detailed technical information accurately, as well as repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers for computer-based design work. High visual acuity is required to ensure accuracy and neatness in drawings, models, and documentation. Employees may be subject to pre-employment
