Job Description
This role focuses on performing TIG and MIG welding on a variety of assemblies, supporting a journeyman welder with fit-up and fabrication, and working with exotic materials such as alloys, stainless steel, and Inconel. You will read and interpret blueprints, use fixtures, and operate hand tools to produce high-quality welds and fabrications on site four days per week in El Cajon, CA.
Responsibilities
- Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on a wide range of assemblies.
- Assist a journeyman welder with fit-up and fabrication tasks according to engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to determine weld locations, parameters, and sequence.
- Use fixtures and jigs to position and secure parts accurately for welding.
- Operate hand grinders and related tools to prepare, finish, and clean welds and components.
- Weld exotic materials, including various alloys, Inconel, and 300/400 series stainless steel.
- Weld materials of different thicknesses, including approximately .032, .060, .090, and .188 inch.
- Perform welding using back gaps and other specialized techniques as required.
- Set up welding machines, including selecting and adjusting amperage and other parameters.
- Document work performed, including type of rod or wire used, type of weld, and other relevant process details.
- Identify materials correctly and record information on travelers or job documentation.
- Fabricate parts under supervision, following specifications and quality requirements.
- Work on assigned jobs both within and adjacent to the core welding field, as needed.
- Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding on assemblies.
- Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) welding on assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Experience using fixtures and jigs for welding assembly and fit-up.
- Hands-on experience welding exotic materials such as alloys, Inconel, and 300/400 series stainless steel.
- Ability to weld various material thicknesses, including approximately .032, .060, .090, and .188 inch.
- Skill in operating hand grinders and similar fabrication tools.
- Capability to set up welding machines, including amperage and other settings.
- Ability to document welding work accurately, including consumables and weld types.
- Capacity to fabricate parts under supervision while following drawings and instructions.
- Ownership of a personal welding hood suitable for TIG and MIG work.
- Willingness to work on assigned jobs both inside and outside the core welding scope.
- Familiarity with identifying materials and recording them properly on travelers or job documentation.
- Comfort working with back gaps and other specialized welding techniques.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, consistent welds.
- Ability to follow direction from a journeyman welder and collaborate effectively with the team.

Work Environment
This is an on-site role based in El Cajon, CA, operating on a first shift schedule from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, four days per week. The work takes place in a fabrication and welding shop environment with welding machines, fixtures, hand grinders, and other standard metalworking equipment. You will work around heat, noise, and metal fabrication activities typical of a welding facility, following all safety procedures and using appropriate protective equipment, including your own welding hood.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
