Job Description
This role supports large-scale U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects in San Diego by performing shipboard preservation and industrial marine painting aboard active naval vessels. You will carry out painting, surface preparation, coating application, and cleanup in a high-tempo environment while adhering to strict safety and NAVSEA standards. The position offers immediate deployment to a long-term strategic Navy initiative focused on fleet modernization and readiness.
Responsibilities
- Perform shipboard painting, touch-ups, and preservation on a variety of structures, compartments, and systems aboard Navy vessels.
- Carry out sanding, grinding, chipping, masking, and other surface preparation tasks to ensure proper coating adhesion and finish quality.
- Assist technicians with coating application, including mixing, handling, and applying primers, paints, and preservation materials.
- Handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently in shipboard, pier, dry dock, and industrial marine environments.
- Apply coatings and preservation materials inside tanks, bilges, voids, and other confined ship compartments following established procedures.
- Execute cleanup activities, including removal of debris, masking materials, and residue, to maintain safe and orderly workspaces.
- Follow strict safety protocols, confined space entry procedures, and NAVSEA standard items while working in industrial marine spaces.
- Operate basic pneumatic and electric tools used for blasting, coating removal, and surface preparation.
- Work within high-tempo, project-driven schedules, completing assignments on time and adapting to changing priorities.
- Collaborate with a team under onsite supervision, communicating clearly and reliably with supervisors and co-workers.
- Comply with all Navy base access requirements, onsite security protocols.
- Work overtime and weekends as required to meet project milestones and support mission-critical naval operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior shipyard, ship repair, or industrial/manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with marine coatings, including understanding temperatures, cure times, and mixing requirements.
- Experience working on CVNs, DDGs, LCS, or amphibious platforms.
- OSHA-10 safety training or certification.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Current DBIDS access is a plus; ability to obtain DBIDS promptly is required.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
