Job Title: Dental Assistant


Job Description

Assist with the opening and closing of the clinic, daily operations, cleanup, and breakdowns, room setup, assist faculty, residents, and staff with clinical procedures, maintain supplies, maintain proper sterilization, and adhere to infection control protocols.


Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the opening and closing of the clinic.
  • Assist with daily operations including operating rooms and other areas throughout and outside the workstation.
  • Open, reopen, and prepare rooms for procedures to be performed.
  • Support the cleanup, breakdown, and room setup process.
  • Assist faculty, residents, and staff with clinical procedures to include areas throughout and outside the workstation.
  • Prepare each operatory with adequate instrumentation and supplies to ensure efficiency for procedures.
  • Maintain adequate supplies for room assignments and ensure clinic operatories are neat, clean, and stocked.
  • Maintain a complete inventory of all clinical supplies.
  • Keep hand-pieces, vacuum lines, traps, tray setups, counters, and automatic developers cleaned and properly sterilized.
  • Adhere to Infection Control Protocol, appropriate attire, and eyewear standards.
  • Perform sterilization duties including the delivery and retrieval of instruments to and from sterilization and storing instruments appropriately upon return.

  • Current CPR certification

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two years of dental assisting back-office experience required
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Dental Assistant Certification preferred
  • Must have one of the following: OMSA, RDA, CDA, or ODA

Work Environment

Dental Assistants will be working within the School of Dentistry, specifically in the Prosthodontics practice. The position involves seeing a high number of patients each day, typically 8-10, in a fast-paced environment. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some days from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Dental Assistants will work chair-side with dental students, assist with patient scheduling, and help maintain inventory and setup for procedures. Appropriate attire and adherence to infection control protocols are required.
