Job Title: Kitchen Dishwasher and Sanitation Assistant
Job Description
This role supports daily kitchen and food service operations by maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and organization. You wash dishes, clean and sanitize kitchen areas, restock supplies, and help ensure all workstations meet health and safety standards. You work closely with kitchen staff, assist with food preparation as needed, and contribute to a positive, team-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment thoroughly and efficiently.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, and workstations to meet health and safety standards.
- Organize kitchen equipment and supplies to keep work areas neat and functional.
- Restock ingredients, disposables, and other supplies to ensure the kitchen remains well supplied throughout service.
- Support kitchen and food service operations by assisting staff with assigned tasks.
- Perform basic food preparation and food prep tasks as directed.
- Follow established cleaning procedures and safety guidelines consistently.
- Work collaboratively with a positive, team-focused attitude and communicate effectively with kitchen staff.
- Adapt to changing priorities and complete tasks in a timely and reliable manner.
- Maintain a strong work ethic, showing dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of work experience, which may include kitchen, general labor, janitorial, or warehouse roles.
- Experience with dishwashing and cleaning tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform foodservice and hospitality-related duties with care and professionalism.
- Basic food preparation and food prep skills or willingness to learn.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and consistency in completing assigned tasks.
- Ability to follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Capacity to work effectively as part of a team and support others as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in foodservice, hospitality, or dishwashing roles is beneficial.
- Experience in general labor, warehouse, or janitorial work is welcomed.
- Comfort working in a service-oriented environment supporting vulnerable populations.
- Willingness to take direction and learn new kitchen procedures.
- Ability to stay organized and maintain cleanliness in busy conditions.

Work Environment
The position is based in a kitchen located within a homeless shelter in the Skid Row area. The environment is service-focused and can be fast paced, with an emphasis on maintaining cleanliness, safety, and respect for the individuals served. Parking in the area is limited, but there are many public transportation options nearby, making commuting accessible. You work in a hands-on setting that involves regular interaction with kitchen equipment, cleaning supplies, and foodservice tools, and you are expected to follow all facility safety and sanitation procedures.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
