Job Description
The Laboratory Technician – Environmental Monitoring plays a crucial role in supporting the site environmental monitoring (EM) program within a cosmetics and OTC manufacturing facility. This position is primarily focused on water system sampling, environmental surface and air monitoring, and facility condition monitoring. Microbiological testing is conducted by an external contract laboratory. This role demands strong aseptic techniques, meticulous attention to detail, and experience in GMP-regulated environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine environmental monitoring sampling throughout manufacturing, filling, and support areas, including surface, air, and personnel monitoring.
- Collect water system samples (PW/RO or similar) according to SOPs and aseptic technique requirements.
- Prepare, label, document, and ship environmental and water samples to third-party microbiology laboratories.
- Maintain and verify temperature and humidity probes, conducting routine checks, documentation, and deviation notifications.
- Trend and review environmental monitoring and water data, escalating out-of-specification or out-of-trend results.
- Ensure accurate and contemporaneous documentation in logbooks, forms, and electronic systems.
- Support investigations related to EM or water system excursions and assist with root cause documentation.
- Maintain EM supplies, media, and sampling materials, ensuring proper storage and inventory levels.
- Adhere to GMP, GLP, OSHA, and company safety requirements at all times.
- Support audits and inspections, including retrieval of EM and water system documentation.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in environmental monitoring, quality control, or laboratory operations within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience with water sampling and aseptic technique.
- Working knowledge of GMP requirements; experience in cosmetics, OTC, pharmaceutical, or personal care manufacturing preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to follow SOPs and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with water testing, sampling, and good documentation practices.
This position operates within a cosmetics manufacturing environment, offering a long-term opportunity with a contract-to-hire potential. The role is a first-shift opportunity starting at 6 or 6:30 am. The work environment emphasizes quality control and environmental monitoring, using temperature, humidity, and water systems within a GMP-regulated setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
