The Tissue Technician supports a high-volume pathology laboratory by grossing and processing biopsy and small tissue specimens, preparing materials for further analysis, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role involves working closely with Pathologist Assistants, handling a variety of specimen types, and contributing to efficient, high-quality diagnostic services in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Assist with specimen accessioning and preparation, following established protocols and quality standards.
- Gross and process biopsy and small tissue specimens, including gastrointestinal, dermatology, gynecologic, bone marrow, clot and core, and gallbladder specimens.
- Prepare and package specimens for transport to another facility for additional processing, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintain accurate specimen documentation and filing, including logs, records, and related laboratory paperwork.
- Manage slide packaging and storage, ensuring that slides are organized, properly labeled, and readily accessible for review.
- Collaborate closely with Pathologist Assistants to support and follow the daily workflow and priorities of the laboratory.
- Adhere to laboratory safety, handling, and quality control procedures while working with pathology specimens.
- Demonstrate flexibility with start times, typically between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to support operational needs.
- Occasionally support additional laboratory locations as needed, contributing to consistent service across sites.
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent education or training.
- Completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or related sciences.
- Experience grossing tissue specimens in a laboratory or pathology setting.
- Ability to work comfortably with pathology specimens in a fast-paced environment.
- Foundational knowledge of histology, biopsy handling, and specimen processing.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen documentation and filing.
- Ability to follow established laboratory protocols and workflows under the guidance of Pathologist Assistants.
- 12 or more years of grossing experience.
- Experience working with a variety of tissue types across different specialties.
- Frozen section experience.
- Experience with dictation and transcription systems such as M*Modal or Dragon.
- Experience using a Laboratory Information System, with CoPath preferred.
- Willingness to occasionally support other laboratory locations.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with Pathologist Assistants and other laboratory staff.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads in a high-volume environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $34.00/hr.
