Job Title: Project Engineer
Job Description
The Project Engineer supports the project team by overseeing key project controls, including job cost tracking, schedule tracking, change orders, RFIs, and submittals. This role ensures that design changes are accurately documented, project progress is clearly monitored, and all project documentation remains organized and up to date. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with construction teams and stakeholders to help deliver projects on time, within budget, and in alignment with contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Track construction contract design changes and updates to ensure all stakeholders work from the most current information.
- Monitor project construction progress and maintain accurate job cost tracking to support budget control and forecasting.
- Coordinate design changes within the construction team to align field activities with updated plans and specifications.
- Assist with the preparation of change orders and maintain a detailed project change order log.
- Assist with the development and ongoing maintenance of the project schedule to support timely project delivery.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of submittal logs and RFI logs to ensure timely review and approval of project documentation.
- Prepare project submittals and submit clear, written RFIs to the client for clarification or additional information.
- Maintain accurate and organized project documentation and support extensive document control processes.
- Collaborate with project team members, providing clear communication and support to help resolve issues as they arise.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively, adapting to changing project needs and contributing wherever needed within the project team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support successful project execution.
Essential Skills
- Working knowledge of construction methodology and managerial processes, typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field, an Electrical Apprenticeship, or at least 3 years of equivalent experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction schedules.
- Extensive experience with document controls and maintaining organized project records.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Working knowledge of job cost tracking and related project financial controls.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly, make sound decisions, and contribute proactively to project needs.
- Excellent human relations skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear RFIs and submittals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field, an Electrical Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience of 3 years or more.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access or similar database tools is a plus.
- Experience in construction, construction management, or engineering environments.
- Experience in project management activities such as RFIs, change orders, and schedule coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation and reporting.
Work Environment
The Project Engineer works in a professional construction project environment that emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and strong project controls. The role involves regular interaction with project managers, field teams, and clients to support ongoing construction activities. You will use tools such as the Microsoft Office suite and document control systems to manage schedules, costs, RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
