Job Description
Join a hands-on manufacturing team as a Swing Shift Sander. In this role, you will prepare products for final finishing and assembly by sanding, inspecting, and refining surfaces to meet quality standards. This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in manufacturing, finishing, paint preparation, woodworking, and production operations while contributing to a fast-paced team environment.
Responsibilities
- Sand and prepare products using orbital sanders and other finishing equipment to achieve smooth, consistent surfaces.
- Inspect parts for defects, perform visual quality checks, and complete rework as needed.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality requirements.
- Prepare products for finishing and assembly processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support production, assembly, and quality activities to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Follow all safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, including respirator use.
- Assist with inventory tracking and material movement.
- Work in a production environment while standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Collaborate with team members to complete sanding and finishing operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months of experience in manufacturing, production, warehouse, construction, automotive, woodworking, cabinetry, or related environments.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in sanding, finishing, paint preparation, surface preparation, woodworking, or automotive body preparation.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment, grinders, polishing tools, or similar equipment.
- Experience following written work instructions, SOPs, quality standards, or production processes.
- Experience performing visual inspections and identifying quality issues.
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment while standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Experience using PPE in manufacturing or production environments.
- Basic computer skills and experience with inventory or production tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with woodworking, carpentry, cabinetry, or wood finishing.
- Experience with paint preparation or automotive surface preparation.
- Experience using orbital sanders and powered finishing tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Work Environment
- Swing Shift: Wednesday through Sunday, 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Initial training schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
- Work is performed in a ventilated production environment.
- Required PPE includes a respirator, protective suit, and other safety equipment as needed.
- Position involves standing for extended periods, repetitive hand movements, and the use of sanding and finishing equipment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Leandro, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
