The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of a growing HVAC and mechanical services company serving residential and commercial customers throughout the region. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end close activities, and supporting day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced service industry environment while helping ensure the company's financial accuracy and operational success.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or any other related field of study
3+ years of experience as a staff accountant or similar accounting background
Must have experience working in construction, engineering, or architect industry
Must have prior experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
Strong knowledge in reconciliation, month end close, and journal entries
Sage 100 experience preferred
What You'll Do
- Manage general ledger accounting activities (approximately 80% of the role)
- Perform account reconciliations and support month-end close
- Prepare accruals and assist with financial reporting
- Oversee WIP accounting and reporting
- Process and reconcile change orders
- Conduct inventory cycle count reconciliations
- Support commission reporting and payroll accuracy
- Assist with AP/AR functions (approximately 20% of the role)
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams on process improvements and system implementations
This is a Permanent position based out of San Marcos, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
