Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Pressure Vessel
Job Description
As a Pressure Vessel Engineer, you will design, analyze, and oversee the fabrication, testing, and maintenance of pressure vessels. Additionally, you will support the development of next-generation ruggedized HVAC, cooling, and thermal management systems. This role requires collaboration with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring our products meet military, defense, and aerospace standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct mechanical, thermal, and structural analysis of pressure vessel assemblies using engineering software like FEA to determine optimal design parameters.
- Create detailed drawings and specifications for pressure vessels, including components like nozzles, supports, and closures.
- Review vendor drawings and fabrication plans to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Monitor welding processes and quality control procedures during pressure vessel construction.
- Calculate wall thicknesses, stress levels, and pressure ratings to ensure structural integrity.
- Analyze pressure vessel performance data to identify potential issues and recommend maintenance strategies.
- Design and oversee repairs for damaged or worn-out pressure vessels.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials for pressure vessel construction based on pressure, temperature, corrosive environment, and desired properties.
- Coordinate pressure testing and non-destructive examination of pressure vessels to verify structural integrity.
- Prepare documentation for pressure vessel certification and regulatory approvals.
- Work closely with project engineers, manufacturing teams, quality inspectors, and clients to ensure project success.
- Provide technical support and expertise on pressure vessel-related issues.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in defense, aerospace, or high-tech industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of engineering mechanics, stress analysis, and material science.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other 3D modeling software.
- Knowledge of relevant pressure vessel codes.
- Experience with pressure vessel design, analysis, and fabrication processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical reporting skills.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, and military quality standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge in HVAC systems, thermal management, and complex mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma tools such as PFMEA, DOE, SPC, and Capability Analysis.
Work Environment
You will report to the Director of Operations and work directly with the President/CEO, Welding Supervisor, Operations Manager, Drafting Team, Director of QC, and Sales Team to support quoting of new projects and existing products. The role involves potential but minimal travel to customer sites or third-party testing houses. This is a hands-on, high-impact role with a clear path to grow into a team lead as the department scales. It offers autonomy, influence, and the chance to shape a critical part of the business, making it a strong opportunity for career growth. The work environment is collaborative, innovative, and performance-driven, with competitive salary, medical, dental, vision benefits, 401K match, and profit-sharing.
