Job Description

Global manufacturing company that's publicly traded in Japan is seeking to add a skilled Sr. Accountant to the team! This role will work closely with the Japanese parent company so candidates must have prior experience working for a Japanese companies or be fluent in Japanese.


Under the supervision of the accounting manager/controller, provide financial analytical assistance and oversight to accounting functions. Assist in preparing consolidation package for financial reporting and support daily inventory cycle count and semi and annual physical inventory count procedures. Administer equipment inventory, ensuring all equipment is properly tagged, transferred, and/or disposed of, and conduct annual equipment inventory. Reconcile master equipment list at year-end, including depreciation reconciliation journal entry. Prepare financial information or disclosures for the annual audit.


Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation of sub-ledgers and general ledger account balances for Inventory, A/R, A/P, etc.
  • Prepare monthly petty cash reconciliation and bank reconciliation.
  • Reconcile inter-company transactions on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Perform monthly analysis of on-hand and slow-moving inventories.
  • Perform cost variance analysis.
  • Perform analysis of freight charges.
  • Support compliance matters such as business license renewals, sales tax filings, annual report filings, and census reporting.
  • Back up/support the accounting associate positions responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable, including reviewing AP invoice entries, AP payments, AR cash receipts, and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Assist the accounting manager in preparation of financial tasks or events, including processing monthly close of financial records, balance sheet reconciliations, and monitoring bank accounts to maintain appropriate cash balance.
  • Coordinate various audits, including quarterly financial audit/review, year-end financial audit, SOX audit, and internal audit.
  • Prepare various reports as requested on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including support in the preparation of consolidation package.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 5 years' related work experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficiency in PC skills, especially Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven experience meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to think independently, use professional judgment, and initiative to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, yet works well as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Accounts Receivable for day-to-day operations is a plus.
  • Japanese speakers preferred.
  • Prior experience working for a Japanese company preferred
  • Demonstrated customer service focus with a positive and respectful work style and professional business demeanor.

Work Environment

This position is on-site and may require overtime during busy periods, especially month-end and year-end. Availability to work on weekends or holidays when necessary is also required
