Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Field Technical Specialist to join the operations team as a Field Service Technician. In this role, you support the Lead Technician with serviceability analysis and benchmarking, create clear and accurate technical service documentation, and help build and implement technical training and onboarding programs. You take direct ownership of on-site inspection, diagnosis, and repair of complex, difficult-to-diagnose vehicles, ensuring high uptime across your assigned area. You analyze issues, review service processes and equipment, identify performance gaps among technicians, and recommend corrective actions that improve overall service quality and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Ensure vehicle uptime of 95% or better within your assigned area or zone by proactively managing service and repair activities.
- Provide in-field technical assistance by deploying immediately to vehicles that are down in the field upon receiving a trouble call.
- Diagnose and repair vehicles on-site, consistently achieving a first-interaction fix rate of greater than 95.5%.
- Conduct in-field "Fix on First Visit" assessments to evaluate and support the performance of third-party service partners.
- Create detailed reports and provide feedback on vehicle performance, service performance, and individual technician performance for use by internal and external cross-functional teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for third-party technicians in your assigned area or zone, supporting them with difficult-to-diagnose or complex repair issues.
- Conduct reviews of service processes and equipment to determine the nature and scope of problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze technician performance to identify individuals who can benefit from additional training and document findings to support targeted development.
- Recommend corrective actions based on thorough analysis of technical issues, service processes, and performance data.
- Perform administrative duties, including documenting daily activities and providing regular feedback to the Lead Technician and Head of Service.
- Create Field Quality Reports when appropriate to capture recurring issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in special projects such as testing tools and providing feedback on their performance and usability.
- Inventory and manage special tools when necessary to ensure proper availability and use in the field.
- Support service engineering data collection activities by gathering accurate technical information from field operations.
- Provide technical support for cross-functional vehicle activities, collaborating with teams across the organization.
- Attend training sessions for new vehicle models, current issues, and emerging technologies to maintain up-to-date technical expertise.
- Perform analysis and create reports for new and updated vehicles, documenting findings that help refine service procedures and training materials.
- High school diploma.
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in a technical role, ideally involving vehicle diagnostics and repair.
- Proven success in supporting remote diagnostics and repair activities.
- Experience in micromobility, automotive, shared mobility, or closely related industries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear technical documentation and reports.
- Experience in creating repair procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), or similar technical documents.
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems, mechanical systems, and CAN-BUS diagnostics and repair.
- Knowledge and experience with mobile and on-site vehicle repair, including troubleshooting in the field.
- Experience with remote diagnostic, troubleshooting, and technical support for vehicles and related equipment.
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues, determine root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Demonstrated adherence to ethical standards and a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams and third-party partners.
- ASE certification or other relevant technical education or certifications preferred.
- Experience working in a start-up environment, with comfort in fast-paced and evolving operational settings.
- Strong interest in sustainable, environmentally friendly new technologies and solutions.
- Knowledge of micromobility vehicles, delivery platforms, shared vehicle subscriptions, and parcel delivery solutions is preferred.
- Experience with repair of micromobility delivery vehicles, including electric and connected platforms.
- Familiarity with CAN-BUS systems, including diagnosing and repairing CAN-BUS failures.
- Ability to support serviceability analysis and benchmarking for vehicles and service processes.
- Experience building and implementing technical training and onboarding programs for technicians.
- Ability to identify performance gaps among technicians and recommend targeted training or process improvements.
- Willingness to travel as needed for offsite workshops, market launches, trade shows, and other business activities.
This role operates primarily in the field, working directly with vehicles and service partners in a hands-on technical environment. You spend significant time on-site performing inspections, diagnostics, and repairs, often at customer locations or operational hubs. The work involves frequent interaction with third-party technicians, cross-functional internal teams, and service engineering groups. You use a combination of mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic tools, including equipment for CAN-BUS analysis and remote troubleshooting. The environment is dynamic and can resemble a start-up setting, with evolving processes, new vehicle models, and emerging technologies in micromobility and shared mobility. Travel is required as needed for offsite workshops, market launches, trade shows, and other business activities. Attire is typically practical and appropriate for technical field work, with safety-conscious clothing suitable for working around vehicles, tools, and equipment.
