Job Description: Cabling Technician
Position Overview: We are currently seeking skilled cabling technicians for a summer project focused on replacing Wireless Access Points (WAP). The role involves dismantling existing WAPs, recording their IP addresses, and installing new WAPs. They would also want some folks who can rack and stack equipment in data center environment as well. .
Key Responsibilities:
- Remove existing Wireless Access Points (WAP) and document their IP addresses.
- Install new WAPs in designated locations.
- Ensure all installations meet the required safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members to complete the project efficiently and on schedule.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in working with various types of cables, including Cat5 and Cat6.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Expertise in cable installation and termination.
- Knowledge of low voltage systems and fiber optics.
- Familiarity with structured cabling, cable trays, and wire management.
- Ability to use hand tools and follow safety protocols.
Top Skills and Qualifications:
- Cable Installation: Experience with Cat6, Cat5, and fiber optic cables.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret and work from blueprints.
- Cable Termination: Skilled in punchdown and termination techniques.
- Low Voltage Systems: Understanding of low voltage cabling and infrastructure.
- Hand Tools: Proficient in using various hand tools for installation and repairs.
- BICSI Certification: Preferred but not required.
- Wire Management: Knowledge of cable runways, J-hooks, and ladder racks.
- Troubleshooting: Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and fixing issues.
- Telecommunications Infrastructure: Experience in installing and maintaining telecommunications systems.
- Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with conduit installation and construction practices.
Additional Skills:
- Structured cabling
- Testing and terminating cables
- Installation and repair of telecommunications systems
- Understanding of color codes and conduit systems
