Job Description
The CNC Operator sets up and runs CNC milling and turning equipment to produce high-quality parts that consistently meet blueprint specifications. This role loads, processes, and unloads parts, performs basic machine offsets, monitors part quality, and carries out routine preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Load, process, and unload parts for routine CNC milling and turning operations according to established procedures.
- Operate one or more CNC machines simultaneously while maintaining consistent quality and productivity.
- Maintain standard operation of CNC equipment and perform basic machine offsets to ensure parts conform to blueprint specifications.
- Continuously monitor parts for visual defects such as burrs, nicks, dents, or scratches and take corrective action as needed.
- Change tools according to the tool life management schedule or as required to maintain burr-free, visually acceptable, and dimensionally accurate parts.
- Perform periodic inspections of parts using basic gauges such as micrometers, calipers, go/no-go pins, indicators, and other fixtures as required.
- Carry out various preventive maintenance activities, including daily inspection of equipment to identify or prevent potential issues.
- Maintain disciplined 6S checklist routines to support a safe, organized, and clean work area.
- Follow written work instructions and production documentation accurately.
- Communicate effectively with the production supervisor and team members regarding quality concerns, equipment issues, and production status.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the production supervisor to support overall production goals.
- Minimum 3 years of experience running CNC machines in a similar or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience operating CNC milling and turning equipment.
- Ability to perform basic machine offsets and make minor adjustments to maintain part quality.
- Basic understanding of blueprint reading to verify part dimensions and specifications.
- Ability to follow written instructions accurately and consistently.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with team members.
- Strong attention to detail when inspecting parts for visual and dimensional defects.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, go/no-go pins, indicators, and fixtures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Related CNC courses or formal CNC training, or equivalent on-the-job training.
- Familiarity with 6S or similar workplace organization and safety practices.
- Experience performing basic preventive maintenance on CNC equipment.
- Comfort working on multiple machines simultaneously in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Environment
This is a manufacturing and production floor environment centered around CNC milling and turning equipment. Team members work with standard measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, go/no-go pins, indicators, and basic fixtures while following 6S routines to maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace. The available schedules include a 3rd shift role from Sunday night to Thursday night, 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and a 2nd shift role from Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Both roles begin with training on 1st shift, Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, equipment checks, and preventive maintenance as part of daily work.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Haven, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.80/hr.
