Lead Payroll Specialist

Overview: Reporting to the HR Director, the Senior Payroll Specialist oversees payroll operations for a workforce of approximately 1,000 individuals. This role ensures timely and precise payroll processing for all staff, including employees and other personnel. The position encompasses all facets of payroll management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee payroll functions, serving as the main liaison with the external payroll provider.
- Prepare, review, and electronically submit payroll data.
- Gather and analyze payroll statistics for accurate calculations.
- Handle complex payroll tax, benefits, and operational queries.
- Assist with manual payroll check processing.
- Work with the Business Office to ensure accurate data integration across Payroll, Employee Benefits, General Ledger, and Accounts Payable.
- Communicate with personnel and external vendors regarding payroll matters.
- Manage the submission of retirement plan contributions, H.S.A. contributions, and union dues.
- Support internal and external payroll audits.
- Monitor and manage employee benefit deductions.
- Maintain records of vacation, sick leave, and personal time off.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Ensure robust internal controls are in place.
- Assist employees with payroll adjustments.
- Understand and apply policies on compensation, work schedules, and time off.
- Review and ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, in collaboration with the Senior Accountant, and implement necessary system changes.
- Associate's degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of payroll administration experience.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification preferred.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
- Strong analytical skills for decision-making based on accurate and timely data.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial acumen.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- General computer proficiency, including familiarity with Windows and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of specific applications is a plus.
