Job Description
The Occupational Health Employee Health Nurse oversees employee health case management and coordinates care with healthcare providers to support safe recovery and timely return to work after injury or illness. This role reports into Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and works closely with Human Resources, Workers’ Compensation, and site leadership to manage occupational health programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote employee wellness within a manufacturing environment. The nurse uses the EHS system Cority and serves as a key clinical and administrative resource for employee health matters.
Responsibilities
- Oversee employee health case management to support recovery and safe return to work following injury or illness.
- Triage reported employee illnesses and injuries at the Jacksonville facilities and determine appropriate next steps for care.
- Assess the need for further medical care or evaluation and coordinate referrals to occupational health providers or other clinicians as appropriate.
- Coordinate care plans, follow-up appointments, work restrictions, and return-to-work requirements between employees, Human Resources, and local established occupational health providers.
- Participate in evaluations with EHS to help determine whether injuries or illnesses are work-related.
- Ensure that required care plans are followed and documented accurately in the EHS system Cority.
- Manage and follow established occupational health programs, policies, and procedures to support compliance and best practices.
- Review respirator medical questionnaire evaluations and support fit-for-duty evaluations and employee interviews as needed.
- Support ergonomic assessments and contribute to recommendations that reduce risk of workplace injury.
- Coordinate medical monitoring programs related to noise exposure and respiratory protection in collaboration with EHS.
- Plan and coordinate wellness programs with HR, including the development and implementation of wellness education campaigns.
- Work with providers, payers, and internal departments to manage workers’ compensation cases and programs, including communication around restrictions and return-to-work plans.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with HR, EHS, Workers’ Compensation coordinators, and site leadership to ensure alignment on employee health matters.
- Contribute to health education initiatives that promote a safe and healthy workplace.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- At least 1 year of nursing experience in operations or manufacturing, preferably in an occupational health setting.
- Experience in occupational health nursing and employee health program support.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical case management for employee injuries and illnesses.
- Ability to triage employee illness and injury and determine appropriate level of care.
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation processes and workers’ compensation claims management.
- Familiarity with OSHA-related occupational health and safety concepts.
- Ability to coordinate and manage employee health programs and policies.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with HR, EHS, Workers’ Compensation, and leadership.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple cases, appointments, and follow-ups simultaneously.
- COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse) or COHN-S (Certified Occupational Health Nurse–Specialist) certification preferred but not required.
- Experience using an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) system such as Cority.
- Background in employee health programs within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience coordinating wellness initiatives and educational health campaigns.
- Knowledge of medical monitoring programs related to noise exposure and respiratory protection.
- Ability to participate in ergonomic assessments and support workplace injury prevention initiatives.
- Comfort working collaboratively across departments and building strong internal partnerships.
This position is based in an office environment located within a manufacturing facility. The nurse works closely with operations, HR, EHS, and site leadership, using technologies such as the EHS system Cority and standard office and clinical documentation tools. The environment combines typical office work with frequent interaction on the production floor to support occupational health, medical monitoring, and ergonomic assessments. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
