Job Title: Construction Technician – Rough Carpentry & Self-Perform Division
Job Description
This role supports a rough carpentry and self-perform division on a commercial healthcare construction project at a hospital campus. The construction technician contributes to day-to-day site operations, performs general labor tasks, assists with minor rough carpentry, and helps maintain a safe, clean, and efficient job site.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of general labor duties on a commercial construction job site, including site preparation, material handling, and basic cleanup.
- Assist with minor rough carpentry tasks, with a focus on setting up temporary window protection and other protective measures as directed.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to support carpenters and other trades on the project.
- Support concrete and carpentry activities as needed, including measuring, cutting, and positioning materials according to instructions and plans.
- Read and work from blueprints or construction drawings to understand tasks, locations, and project requirements under supervision.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including general commercial cleaning around active construction zones.
- Work collaboratively with additional subcontractors and trades on campus to ensure smooth coordination of daily activities.
- Follow all site safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to OSHA standards.
- Report any safety concerns, site hazards, or equipment issues promptly to supervision.
- Work a consistent Monday through Friday schedule (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and reliably complete a full 40-hour workweek.
Essential Skills
- At least 3+ years of commercial construction experience.
- Experience working on commercial construction projects, including new construction environments.
- Ability to perform general labor duties such as site preparation, cleaning, and material handling on a construction site.
- Basic rough carpentry skills, including assisting with temporary window protection and similar tasks.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a construction setting.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints or construction drawings.
- Familiarity with commercial carpentry and commercial cleaning practices.
- Understanding of tape measure use and basic construction measurements.
- Knowledge of healthcare construction environments is beneficial.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and site-specific safety requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare construction is a strong advantage.
- Experience in commercial carpentry, concrete work, and new construction projects.
- OSHA 10 certification is highly beneficial.
- OSHA 30 certification is highly beneficial.
- Scissor lift certification is a benefit.
- Fall protection certification is a benefit.
- Experience working alongside multiple subcontractors and trades on active campuses.
- Comfort working in a hospital construction environment with active operations nearby.

Work Environment
The role is based on a commercial construction site located on a hospital campus. You work primarily outdoors and in partially enclosed structures, where conditions will be hot when the weather is hot and cold when the weather is cold. The site is active and fast-paced, with multiple subcontractors and trades working alongside each other. Hand and power tools are provided by the employer. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety practices, OSHA standards, and coordination with hospital operations while construction activities are underway.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Merritt Island, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
