Job Description
Join our dynamic team in Orlando, FL, as a Senior or Principal-level Mechanical Project Engineer. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the success of our Florida office, working on high-profile projects in the Amusement, Entertainment, and Aerospace industries. You will focus primarily on show action equipment, dynamic ride systems, and mission-critical offshore aerospace tooling.
Responsibilities
- Lead the testing, commissioning, and turnover of mechanical equipment and systems to clients.
- Provide hands-on field support, including construction supervision, system troubleshooting, and warranty services.
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in real time during field operations.
- Conduct inspections and tests of components at manufacturing facilities prior to shipment and oversee installation in the field.
- Collaborate with contractors, fabricators, and internal customers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support the mechanical design team with tasks such as developing concepts, performing calculations, and creating detailed designs as needed.
- Design complex machinery, including gearing, actuators, wheels, weldments, bearings, and related assemblies.
- Provide project updates and ensure seamless integration of systems during design reviews with architects, contractors, consultants, and internal engineering teams.
- Manage all aspects of multi-discipline construction projects in both the field and office.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical engineering expertise with proficiency in SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, and Ansys.
- Strong understanding and application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience with system testing, commissioning, and turnover of mechanical equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and resolve technical issues in the field.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions/procedures.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering.
- E.I.T. credential with plans to pursue the P.E. exam.
- 5+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with an M.S. degree, in a related engineering field.
- Florida P.E. registration.
- 2+ years of experience in the Amusement or Entertainment industry.
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing techniques and field supervision.
- Experience managing risks associated with custom, unprecedented designs.
- Ability to analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications, and cost.
- Familiarity with related industry standards, including ASTM F2291, AISC, and AWS.
Work Environment
The role requires flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed. You must be willing to travel up to 20%, primarily to our corporate office in Minneapolis. The position involves physical effort, including standing, lifting, and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 35 lbs). Work may occur at elevated heights and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and snow.
