Commercial Construction Superintendent
Job Description
The Commercial Construction Superintendent oversees day-to-day field operations for commercial construction projects in the Fort Lauderdale and broader South Florida market. This role coordinates subcontractors, maintains project schedules, enforces safety and quality standards, arranges inspections, documents daily activities, and communicates progress to the project management team. The Superintendent delivers field construction in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements while leading onsite teams to successful project completion.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and clearly communicate project schedules to organize upcoming activities and keep construction on target.
- Provide ongoing schedule updates and field input to project management to support informed decision-making.
- Coordinate the daily work of subcontractors throughout all phases of construction, ensuring activities are properly sequenced and staffed.
- Ensure field construction is completed in accordance with the design, budget, schedule, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Monitor construction costs established by the Project Manager and submit invoices and supporting documentation to Accounting in a timely manner.
- Prepare detailed daily reports covering site conditions, manpower, subcontractor activity, progress, deliveries, safety matters, delays, and potential issues.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and organizational safety procedures across the job site to promote a safe working environment.
- Conduct preinstallation safety evaluations and develop action plans with subcontractors before work begins.
- Confirm that required machinery, tools, and equipment are available, properly used, and maintained in safe working condition.
- Schedule and participate in inspections required by local and state authorities, ensuring work is ready and compliant.
- Organize final inspections and support punch-list completion and project closeout activities.
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure work meets applicable quality standards and contractual requirements.
- Maintain consistent communication with project management regarding progress, risks, schedule impacts, and field conditions.
- Respond to onsite incidents and emergencies according to established procedures and document actions taken.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, subcontractors, equipment, deliveries, and site logistics to maintain efficient job-site operations.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and safe construction site with high standards for cleanliness and order.
- Lead subcontractors while maintaining productive relationships with project managers, inspectors, clients, vendors, and field personnel.
- Use construction scheduling tools and Microsoft Office applications to support planning, documentation, and communication.
- Support the successful delivery of projects, including commercial interiors, renovations, and other commercial building types, with a focus on safety, quality, and schedule performance.
Essential Skills
- At least 10 years of construction supervisory experience in commercial construction.
- Experience directing daily site operations and coordinating subcontractors, labor, materials, equipment, and inspections.
- Advanced understanding of commercial construction trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drywall, layout, and finish trades.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, contracts, specifications, and related project documents.
- Knowledge of construction safety regulations and demonstrated experience enforcing job-site safety requirements.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and job-site safety procedures, including safety enforcement.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and updating construction schedules while providing regular schedule updates to project management.
- Experience maintaining detailed daily logs covering site conditions, manpower, completed work, deliveries, incidents, and project activity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and motivate subcontractors and field personnel.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, vendors, and field staff.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills to produce clear, detailed, and timely reports.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to changing field conditions and onsite incidents.
- Ability to work effectively within an active construction environment and perform required physical activities such as standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to navigate active construction sites and complete occasional administrative work using a computer or laptop.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with the South Florida construction market is highly desirable.
- Experience supervising projects valued at $5 million or more is preferred.
- Previous experience with commercial interiors and renovation projects is beneficial.
- Experience using construction scheduling software is preferred.
- Experience coordinating inspections with local and state authorities is beneficial.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
- Experience working on a variety of commercial project types, including new construction, renovations, adaptive reuse, and fast-track interior projects.
- Ability to maintain high standards for safety, quality, cleanliness, and schedule performance.

Work Environment
This is an onsite role based out of a Fort Lauderdale office with regular travel to active commercial construction sites throughout South Florida. The Superintendent spends most working hours at job sites, interacting regularly with subcontractors, project managers, inspectors, vendors, and field personnel. Work conditions may include noise, dust, heat, humidity, changing weather, active machinery, uneven surfaces, ladders, and work around multiple construction trades. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required. The position involves frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, and pulling, along with occasional administrative work performed on a computer or laptop. Standard working hours should be confirmed with the hiring team; construction schedules may require early starts, extended hours, or occasional off-hours work to support inspections, milestones, emergencies, and project needs. Local travel between the Fort Lauderdale office and project sites is expected, and any vehicle or mileage requirements should be confirmed during the hiring process. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.00 - $56.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
