Job Title: Phlebotomist II


Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. This position requires expertise in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and execute all physician orders accurately.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Data entry and customer service skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to perform 40-50 draws per day.
  • Experience with sample/specimen processing.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience in pediatrics and geriatrics.

Work Environment

The position is located at a diagnostic lab across from Northside Hospital, featuring four draw rooms and an OTS room. You will work as part of a team, performing 40-50 draws per day. Training will be conducted with the site coordinator over approximately 2-3 weeks. The role offers hours from 7 AM to 4 PM, with specific days to be confirmed. The facility emphasizes punctuality, customer friendliness, teamwork, and good attendance. The role includes tasks such as draw processing, order entry, kiosk assistance, payment acceptance, credit card captures, and understanding the order of draw. Processing experience is a valuable asset, and training will cover opening and closing procedures.
