Job Description
This entry-level welder position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized manufacturing environment producing equipment for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. You will perform MIG welding and fabrication tasks, working from blueprints and schematics to assemble and weld structural metal parts. This role is ideal for someone with foundational welding experience who wants to grow their skills and advance within a supportive, family-oriented team.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding on structural metal parts, truck beds, hitches, and machinery frames in accordance with blueprints and schematics.
- Assemble, cut, and weld components to meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings, schematics, and welding symbols accurately.
- Set up and operate welding equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Inspect welded joints and assemblies to ensure proper penetration, alignment, and structural integrity.
- Work in various positions, including overhead and vertical welding, as required by the job.
- Handle and move heavy materials and components safely throughout the work area.
- Maintain a clean and organized work station in a busy shop environment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Foundational welding experience, ideally 3–6 months of on-the-job MIG welding.
- Ability to perform MIG welding and successfully pass a weld test.
- Basic fabrication skills, including cutting, fitting, and assembling metal components.
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and work in varying positions, including overhead and vertical welding.
- Capability to routinely lift and move heavy objects as part of daily duties.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds and assemblies.
- Reliability and willingness to work a consistent 1st shift schedule.
- Preferred: certification from a welding school or trade school.
- Experience working with MIG welders and basic shop tools.
- Comfort working with older equipment and a wide variety of part numbers.
- Interest in developing additional machining or fabrication skills through training.
- Ability to work effectively in a smaller team environment with long-tenured employees.
You will join a stable, family-oriented organization with a century-long history and a close-knit, smaller shop environment where you are recognized as an individual, not just a number. The company supports professional growth, including opportunities to attend school for specific machining skills and to build a long-term career alongside experienced, long-tenured colleagues. Employees may access a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with match, and life insurance, all within a culture that values longevity, respect, and work-life balance.
Work Environment
The role is based in a smaller, older manufacturing shop that can be dusty and dirty at times, reflecting the nature of heavy fabrication work. You will work around older parts and machinery, with thousands of different part numbers in the facility, providing a varied and hands-on environment. The team includes many long-tenured employees, contributing to a stable, knowledgeable workforce and a family-oriented culture. The position is on 1st shift, offering consistent daytime hours in a setting where practical work attire suitable for welding and fabrication, including appropriate safety gear, is expected.
