Job Description
This role is a hands-on production position in a metal fabrication environment, where you spend part of your day on the paint line and part of your day supporting other fabrication tasks such as laser cutting, deburring, grinding, and assembly. You rotate between departments based on plant needs, receive training in each area, and contribute to the smooth flow of products through the manufacturing process. The work is physical, involves frequent use of hand and power tools, and requires attention to detail and a strong team-oriented mindset.
Responsibilities
- Work on the paint line for a portion of each shift, performing extensive hand sanding and other preparation tasks on metal parts.
- Prepare parts for painting by taping off designated sections, filling holes as required, and ensuring surfaces are properly prepped.
- Hang metal pieces on the paint line and monitor the process as parts move through the painting system.
- Handle sheets of lasered steel, transporting them from the laser cutting machine to the workstation.
- Use hand tools to knock out cut pieces from the steel sheets, ensuring parts are separated safely and efficiently.
- Perform visual inspections of cut parts to identify defects or irregularities before moving them to the next stage.
- Stack inspected parts into totes or containers in an organized manner for transfer to subsequent processes.
- Operate deburring and polishing equipment to smooth edges left from the laser cutting process.
- Grind and polish welds on metal parts to ensure surfaces are flat, smooth, and ready for painting.
- Carry out straightforward assembly tasks using hand and power tools to put components together according to specifications.
- Rotate between laser cutting, deburring/grinding, paint line, and assembly tasks as needed based on production requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when working with machinery, tools, and materials.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, managing tools and materials in a safe and organized manner.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support overall plant operations.
- Demonstrate flexibility by learning new tasks and taking on different roles in various departments as training is provided.
- Consistently lift and move materials and parts weighing up to 40 lbs as part of daily duties.
- Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or quality problems promptly to the appropriate personnel.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs safely and repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Willingness to work in a physical, hands-on production role involving standing, bending, and manual tasks.
- Flexibility to learn new tasks and move between different departments based on plant needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support colleagues in a collaborative environment.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Comfort using hand tools and power tools for tasks such as sanding, grinding, deburring, and assembly.
- Basic machine operation or machine operating experience in a production setting.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality, with a commitment to meeting shift and production requirements.
- Attention to detail when inspecting parts and preparing surfaces for painting.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and quality standards.
- Metal fabrication experience, such as working with welding, press brake, CNC, or related processes, is a plus.
- Previous experience operating fabrication machinery or equipment is beneficial.
- Openness to cross-training in multiple fabrication disciplines and developing new technical skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative in a busy production environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support different areas of the plant as needed.
- Candidates with prior fabrication experience may be considered for higher pay based on their background.
You join a family-operated organization that values treating employees like family and invests in their long-term growth. The company offers a supportive culture where training and development are encouraged, especially for those interested in advancing within fabrication areas such as welding, press brake, and CNC. Employees receive comprehensive benefits, including health, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan with a 5% match, and generous paid time off with two weeks of PTO from the start plus additional sick days. The environment emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and learning, providing opportunities to build valuable skills and grow your career in manufacturing.
Work Environment
This is a 2nd shift position, working Monday through Friday from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am. The facility is a typical metal fabrication plant that is not temperature controlled, so it can become warm during the hot summer months, particularly in the paint line area, while the rest of the plant remains relatively mild. The production floor has normal manufacturing noise from machines, but it is not excessively loud. The environment is somewhat dirty, as expected in metal fabrication, yet overall maintains fairly average and manageable working conditions. You work on and around fabrication equipment, paint lines, and standard manufacturing tools, and should be comfortable in a busy, industrial setting with appropriate work attire suitable for a fabrication shop.
