Job Title: 2nd Shift Compounder
Job Description
The 2nd Shift Compounder prepares and processes liquid and powder batches by accurately weighing, mixing, and transferring raw materials in a GMP food manufacturing environment. This role uses computer systems, scales, pumps, valves, and mixers to follow precise formulas and batch records, and may operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move materials and finished product. The position requires careful attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and flexibility to support multiple areas of production as needed.
Responsibilities
- Use the computer system to access, follow, and complete work orders, batch records, and related production documentation.
- Accurately weigh raw materials according to formulas using scales and record all measurements as required.
- Fill liquids and powders into tanks and other vessels, ensuring correct quantities and following manufacturing instructions.
- Select appropriate tanks based on manufacturing requirements, product type, and batch size.
- Pick required raw materials from the raw material warehouse in accordance with the formula and work order.
- Scan raw materials using a barcode scanner to verify lot numbers and quantities for full traceability.
- Stage raw materials in the production area and add them to tanks in the correct sequence and amounts as specified in the work order.
- Operate pumps, valves, and air mixers to blend and mix batches to required specifications.
- Fill and pack orders according to sales orders, ensuring accurate weights, proper use of sifter screens, and correct labeling.
- Maintain accurate labeling and packing logs, ensuring all documentation is complete and legible.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks as needed to move raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods around the production floor.
- Lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs. safely and in accordance with safety procedures.
- Wear a respirator and any other required personal protective equipment when handling specific materials or performing designated tasks.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety guidelines to maintain product quality and a safe work environment.
- Adhere to chemical and food safety protocols while working around chemicals and food-grade materials.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with GMP standards.
- Participate in cross-training and assist in different departments as production needs require.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, issues, or discrepancies.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency in compounding and mixing operations.
Essential Skills
- Experience performing compounding, reaction operating, or mixing in a food and/or chemical manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a GMP environment with a solid understanding of GMP guidelines.
- Proficiency using scales, pumps, valves, and air mixers for batch mixing and formulation.
- Ability to perform accurate raw material measurements and follow formulas and batch records.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely in a production environment.
- Comfort working around chemicals and food-grade materials in a GMP food environment.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, especially in labeling, packing, and maintaining logs and documentation.
- Comfort wearing a respirator when required by specific tasks or materials.
- High School Diploma (HSD) or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills to navigate production systems and handle written compounder materials.
- Willingness to work 2nd shift and train on 1st shift as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, chemical processing, or batch mixing operations.
- Experience compounding, blending, batching, batch making, or formulation work.
- Experience with filling operations, including operating batch mixers and filling equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality in a regulated production environment.
- Flexibility to be cross-trained and support various departments based on production needs.
- Ability to remain organized and focused in a fast-paced production setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NORTHBROOK, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $29.00/hr.
