Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic – 2nd Shift
Job Description
This 2nd shift Maintenance Mechanic role focuses on performing preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment, including mechanical systems and basic electrical components. You will ensure safe, reliable operation of production machinery by completing scheduled PMs, troubleshooting breakdowns, and supporting continuous improvement of plant reliability. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, solid basic electrical skills up to 480V 3-phase, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with production and maintenance teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment, including lubing, greasing, and inspecting components for wear, damage, or potential failure.
- Conduct mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on hydraulics, pneumatics, motors (up to 400 HP), gears, bearings, fans, and related mechanical systems.
- Support maintenance of equipment such as band saws, cut-off saws, horizontal contour cutters, laser cutters, presses (up to 20 tons), slitters, 400 HP grinders, glue machines, rollers, conveyors, and ABB/Fanuc/Motoman robots.
- Carry out reactive maintenance to quickly and safely resolve unplanned equipment issues and minimize production downtime.
- Use basic electrical knowledge to work safely with 480V 3-phase systems, following LOTO procedures and using a volt meter to check and replace breakers, fuses, and sensors.
- Read and interpret basic electrical schematics to assist in electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- Follow all lockout/tagout and safety procedures when working on equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
- Use a tablet to log work orders, document repairs, record preventative maintenance tasks, and track completed jobs in the maintenance system.
- Use math skills and a tape measure accurately when repairing, aligning, or installing components.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to prioritize work, share information on equipment performance, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Train initially on 1st shift to learn equipment, procedures, and plant processes before moving to the regular 2nd shift schedule.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to the overall cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and plant.
- Use company-provided power and specialty tools safely and properly, while maintaining personal hand tools and toolbox in good working condition.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and teammates about equipment status, repair timelines, and any safety or reliability concerns.
Essential Skills
- At least 3+ years of experience performing preventative maintenance, including lubing, greasing, and inspecting components for wear or problems.
- At least 3+ years of mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, gears, bearings, and fans.
- Basic electrical knowledge and hands-on experience working with systems up to 480V 3-phase.
- Ability to follow and apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures consistently and correctly.
- Proficiency using a volt meter to test circuits and components and to check and replace breakers, fuses, and sensors.
- Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting and read electrical schematics at a fundamental level.
- Ownership of basic hand tools and a toolbox; ability to use company-provided power and specialty tools.
- Good math skills and the ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to use a tablet or similar device to log jobs, update work orders, and document repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Willingness and ability to train on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd shift.
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of industrial multi-craft maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Journeyman Millwright background or equivalent training and experience.
- Fabrication experience, including welding, bending, cutting, and straightening metal.
- Experience using machine shop equipment such as lathes, mills, and cut-off saws.
- Exposure to or knowledge of PLCs, particularly Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems.
- Comfort working with a variety of industrial machinery, including presses, grinders, cutters, and robots.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance issues.
- Consistent work history that demonstrates commitment, dependability, and teamwork.

Work Environment
This role works on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The facility is clean, organized, and bright, with machinery, piping, and ceilings painted white to support visibility and a tidy work area. You will work around a variety of industrial equipment, including saws, cutters, presses, grinders, conveyors, glue machines, and robots. A tablet is provided to log work orders and maintenance tasks, and a tricycle is available to move efficiently throughout the plant. There is a localized chemical smell in one specific area of the plant where ingredients are mixed to make foam, but the overall environment is controlled and focused on safety and cleanliness. The company provides power and specialty tools, while you bring your own basic hand tools and toolbox.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
