Structural Steel Inspector
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Structural Steel Inspector to join our team. This role involves traveling to various job sites to perform inspections on structures and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance with relevant standards. You will usually commute up to 1 hour from the Hammond, IN area, and potentially do out of state travel covered by the company. This is a first shift position typically 6AM-4PM. Responsibilities
- Travel to job sites and complete site-specific safety training to understand facility hazards such as overhead cranes and stair grading.
- Complete daily work permits and required documentation.
- Inspect structures and equipment for deficiencies, document findings, and take digital photos.
- Work with basic hand tools in the field.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to assess the severity of findings.
- Read and interpret drawings to identify and label the location of observed deficiencies.
- Review inspection specifications relevant to the structures being evaluated.
- Create field sketches to illustrate the locations of structures or equipment within the facility.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a millwright or facility maintenance mechanic.
- Experience in welding, structural, and steel inspection.
- Willingness to travel and be away from home for up to a week at a time.
- Ability to learn and adapt to the inspector role.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 150ft using man lifts.
- Able to be respirator fit and proficient in report writing and AutoCAD.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- NDT experience or certification.
- Manlift Certification.
- Overhead Crane inspection experience.
- OSHA10 certification.

Work Environment
Work takes place in industrial settings, which can range from manufacturing for automotive to dirty steel mills, aerospace, nuclear facilities, and more. Collaborate in teams of 2-3 people, focusing on various facilities. Expect to travel approximately 80% of the time, with most work within 45 minutes to an hour of the site. Overnight travel is required for larger jobs, extending up to 10 surrounding states, with travel compensated.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
