Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
The Lab Technician performs laboratory analyses to determine the chemical and physical characteristics of solid, liquid, and gaseous materials. This role supports process control, product quality, and environmental compliance by conducting accurate testing, maintaining precise documentation, and interpreting analytical results to guide operational decisions.
Responsibilities
- Work independently with minimal supervision while strictly following established laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of analytical laboratory instruments, including spectrometers, furnaces, balances, pH meters, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot routine instrument and equipment issues and perform basic corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Prepare chemical solutions and test samples using standard laboratory techniques and good laboratory practices.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses on raw materials, in‑process samples, finished products, and environmental samples.
- Record, organize, and report test results accurately using electronic data systems and laboratory documentation tools.
- Provide guidance to production or operations teams to support chemical or process adjustments based on test results.
- Assist with identifying and resolving routine process or quality deviations by using laboratory data and observations.
- Support environmental monitoring activities and waste disposition efforts in accordance with established procedures.
- Comply with all safety, environmental, quality, and housekeeping standards while working in the laboratory and manufacturing areas.
- Assist in training and mentoring new laboratory personnel by demonstrating proper techniques and procedures.
- Maintain professional conduct and perform additional laboratory or related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 1+ years of chemistry-based laboratory experience, which may include experience gained through education.
- Hands-on experience with quality control and quality assurance testing in a laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques, including titration and related analytical methods.
- Experience in analytical chemistry, including working with viscosity measurements and other physical property tests.
- Familiarity with laboratory practices in chemistry and biology-related environments.
- Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and established quality procedures.
- Ability to accurately record, interpret, and report laboratory data using electronic systems.
- High School Diploma required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed in support of laboratory and sampling activities.
- Ability to wear a respirator as needed in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
- Ability and willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift as scheduled.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
- Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain analytical instruments such as spectrometers, furnaces, balances, and pH meters.
- Experience supporting process control, product quality, or environmental compliance through laboratory testing.
- Ability to mentor and assist in training new laboratory personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation.
- Interest in pursuing growth opportunities within a laboratory career path.
Work Environment
This position is based in an industrial manufacturing environment with a dedicated laboratory area. The laboratory itself is climate-controlled, while samples are brought in from the manufacturing plant. The setting is an industrial lab rather than a clean, whitecoat-style facility. The work may require lifting up to 50 lbs and wearing a respirator as needed, in accordance with medical screening and safety requirements. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, and consistent quality standards, while offering opportunities for growth within the laboratory function.
The role involves working on shift: there are openings on 2nd shift (4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.) and 3rd shift (12:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.).
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
