Job Title: Survey Crew Chief
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Lafayette. This mid-level position is ideal for a surveyor who is ready to take on independent field responsibilities, serving as the sole field representative on assigned projects. The role involves substantial outdoor work, early starts, and travel across varied terrains and weather conditions. Office time for research, drafting, and calculations complements the fieldwork.
Responsibilities
- Perform boundary and ALTA surveys, construction layout, topographic and utility surveys, right-of-way or route surveys, and control networks.
- Manage and conduct fieldwork independently while supervising another surveyor when necessary.
- Utilize Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office for survey-related tasks.
- Ensure reliability and professional judgment in the field.
- Operate field equipment and document survey results accurately.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of field surveying experience.
- Proficiency in Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills and professional judgment.
- Valid driver's license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Experience with unmanned aerial survey systems.
- Active pursuit of PLS licensure or equivalent state credential.
Work Environment
The role requires extended outdoor work in all weather conditions and across varied terrains, with standard construction hours (7 AM - 4 PM). The position offers a flexible work environment with a hybrid schedule, typically requiring 3-4 days in-office.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.44 - $36.06/hr.
