Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist establishes, implements, and sustains site-level safety and environmental programs that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and strengthen a proactive safety culture within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role serves as the primary resource for safety and environmental guidance, partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams to support continuous improvement and world‑class EHS standards for mission‑critical industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
- Establish and sustain safety and environmental practices at the site that support regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and a strong safety culture.
- Serve as a primary resource for safety and environmental guidance, providing practical interpretation of regulations and clear direction to employees and leaders.
- Perform routine and targeted evaluations of workplace conditions to identify exposure and risk areas, and drive timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate and maintain OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and ISO-related programs, including internal audits, documentation, and ongoing compliance activities.
- Support fact-finding and follow-up activities related to incidents, injuries, and near misses, including documentation, root cause analysis, and tracking of improvement actions.
- Maintain accurate chemical-related records and digital documentation systems that support material awareness, hazard communication, and safe handling practices.
- Assist with workplace injury administration processes, including reporting, documentation, and maintenance of required logs.
- Support structured safety and environmental management frameworks through internal reviews, readiness activities, and ongoing record upkeep.
- Create and deliver safety-focused onboarding and refresher training sessions for employees and third-party personnel.
- Coordinate site emergency readiness efforts and recurring emergency response training in partnership with external service providers.
- Oversee exposure evaluation activities related to workplace conditions, including monitoring programs and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
- Maintain organized safety documentation, training records, and contractor compliance files to ensure accessibility and audit readiness.
- Administer PPE processes, including specialty equipment management and controlled distribution systems.
- Assist with site sustainability initiatives through data tracking, documentation, and coordination with service partners.
- Compile, analyze, and present safety and environmental performance updates using visual dashboards and summary-based reporting tools.
- Participate in reviews, assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance EHS performance and operational maturity.
- At least 5 years of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) experience supporting safety and environmental programs within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO standards relevant to safety and environmental management.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and their practical application in an industrial setting.
- Strong working knowledge of EPA regulations and applicable state environmental and safety regulations.
- Proven experience with EHS compliance, including audits, reporting, and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct safety and environmental training for a variety of audiences.
- Experience coordinating or supporting internal audit programs and readiness activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Ability to interpret regulations and standards and translate them into practical workplace procedures.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation systems.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to influence and partner with operations, engineering, and leadership teams.
- Experience working within structured safety and environmental management frameworks, such as OSHA VPP or ISO-based systems.
- Familiarity with digital documentation systems for chemical management, training records, and contractor compliance.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety onboarding and refresher training content.
- Comfort working in a complex, hands-on manufacturing environment with multiple stakeholders.
- A mindset focused on structure, accountability, and continuous improvement in safety performance.
This position is based on-site in an industrial manufacturing facility and is not a hybrid or remote role. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an expectation of on-site presence during core production hours. The role requires flexibility to support off-shift activities such as training, audits, and incident response, as well as occasional early or late hours tied to investigations, emergencies, or regulatory requirements. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, with close collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams, and a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and operational discipline.
