This Quality Engineer II position offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic aerospace and defense electronics supplier in the Kansas City area. You will support a broad range of quality engineering activities, from first article inspections and documentation to internal audits and root cause analysis, helping ensure products meet stringent industry and customer requirements. This role is ideal for a self-starter who wants to be hands-on with new products and grow their expertise in aerospace quality standards and practices.
Responsibilities- Assist in completing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and related documentation to verify that new or modified products meet specified requirements.
- Support customer source inspections by preparing comprehensive documentation packages and coordinating required quality information.
- Review sales orders to confirm quality requirements and generate clear, accurate Quality Control Instructions (QCIs) for production and inspection teams.
- Participate in internal investigations and support structured root cause and corrective action activities to address product and process nonconformances.
- Update and maintain quality procedures, forms, and inspection criteria to reflect current standards, customer requirements, and best practices.
- Support training on workmanship standards and quality requirements to ensure consistent understanding and application across teams.
- Assist in preparing basic quality metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and trend charts to monitor quality performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support internal audits and nonconformance reviews to verify compliance with AS9100/ISO 9001 and internal quality procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams under guidance and supervision to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
- Perform other quality-related duties as required and assigned to support overall quality system effectiveness.
- Foundational understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to participate in structured root cause analysis activities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for interaction across departments.
- High attention to detail and strong accuracy in documentation and recordkeeping.
- Ability to learn and apply quality tools, FAIR requirements, and inspection methods.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, data analysis, and reporting.
- Exposure to ERP or MES systems, with the ability to navigate and use these tools to support quality activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams under guidance and supervision.
- Commitment to learning quality standards, customer requirements, and compliance expectations.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations in alignment with ADA guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
- 1–2 years of engineering or manufacturing experience, including internships or co-op experience.
- Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 standards beyond a foundational level is preferred.
- Experience or interest in quality engineering, quality control, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Understanding of IPC standards and electronics manufacturing practices.
- Exposure to aerospace and defense industry requirements and practices.
- Experience or coursework related to Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies.
- Self-starter mindset with a desire to be hands-on with new products and evolving technologies.
This role is based onsite 100% of the time in a manufacturing and engineering environment focused on electronic aerospace products. The typical work schedule is approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing regular daytime hours. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams, using tools such as Microsoft Office and ERP/MES systems, and applying AS9100, ISO 9001, IPC, and other aerospace and defense standards. The environment emphasizes collaboration, continuous learning, and hands-on involvement with new products in a rapidly growing organization.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Olathe, KS.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
