Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team, responsible for overseeing the entire bidding process for commercial construction projects. This role involves coordinating pre-bid activities, creating comprehensive bid proposals, and collaborating with project managers to ensure project success.
Responsibilities
- Complete vetting questions and attend pre-bid meetings; take pre-construction photos as needed.
- Set up estimating folder on shared drive and create master vendor list.
- Order plans and review all drawings and specifications.
- Create and send invitations to bid.
- Submit requests for Builder’s Risk Insurance, Bid Bonds, and Certificates of Insurance as required.
- Follow up with subcontractors via email, calls, and texts to solicit bids.
- Create and manage the overall Schedule of Values.
- Perform all necessary take-offs.
- Compile and complete all bid submission forms, including insurance, bonding, and DBE/WBE/MBE forms.
- Review and manage bid tally and scope sheets; prepare bid envelope.
- Manage bid day responsibilities, including Google Docs coordination.
- Coordinate in-person or online bid submissions.
- Compile post-bid information and create job folders.
- Schedule and conduct 48-hour and turnover meetings with production; input budget and prepare buyout/bust sheet.
- Prepare subcontracts and templates; set up new jobs in Master Builder.
- Submit in-person bids as needed.
- Participate in estimating bid calls and L10 meetings.
- Collaborate with project managers to address project questions.
- Conduct estimator job walks and review project change orders from project managers.
Essential Skills
- Over 5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, with a strong skillset in both ground-up and renovation projects.
- Skilled in analyzing and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and scope documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate quantity takeoffs, detailed cost estimates, and competitive bid proposals.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial building systems, subcontractor scopes, and current market pricing trends.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in using estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- Experience in construction, either as a General Contractor (GC) or subcontractor.
- Experience with preconstruction processes and bidding.
Work Environment
The role is based in-office in Lexington, KY. You will work within a team of three, bidding on a variety of commercial projects, including in-house concrete and drywall projects.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, KY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
