The Diesel Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, and repairs diesel-powered vehicles and heavy machinery, including semi-trucks, buses, and construction equipment. This role uses specialized diagnostic software and hand tools to perform preventative maintenance, overhaul engines, and repair complex systems such as transmissions, air brakes, and hydraulic systems.
Responsibilities- Inspect diesel-powered vehicles and heavy machinery to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Diagnose problems using specialized diesel diagnostic software, electronic testing equipment, and hand tools.
- Perform preventative maintenance on diesel engines, including fluid changes, filter replacements, and system checks.
- Overhaul and repair diesel engines to restore performance and reliability.
- Repair and maintain complex vehicle systems, including transmissions, air brake systems, and hydraulic components.
- Troubleshoot diesel engine performance issues and determine effective repair solutions.
- Conduct repairs on electrical systems related to diesel engines and vehicle operation.
- Test repaired systems and components to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Document inspections, diagnoses, maintenance activities, and repairs in a clear and accurate manner.
- Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working with heavy equipment and diesel systems.
- Proven ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and heavy machinery.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related components.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engine maintenance, including preventative service and engine overhauls.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and the ability to service and repair hydraulic systems on heavy equipment.
- Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and the ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults.
- Ability to use specialized diagnostic software to identify issues in diesel engines and related systems.
- Proficiency with hand tools and shop equipment used in diesel repair and maintenance.
- Understanding of transmissions, air brake systems, and other complex vehicle systems common to diesel equipment.
- Experience working on semi-trucks, buses, and construction equipment is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and service schedules for diesel fleets.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and diagnostic reports.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing high-quality repairs.
- Effective communication skills to explain findings, repairs, and maintenance recommendations.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple repair tasks and maintain accurate service records.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
